Great stay in a quite location

May 2022 | Michelle S

Just returned from 6 nights at the hotel. It’s in a great location near the Rubicon ( takes about 20mins to walk) or you can walk to the amazing Papagayo Beaches. We only did half Board, they allow you to swap your dinner for a lunch if you want to eat out, which is good. The hotel is classed as a 4 start it’s very quite and for once you don’t have to up with the towel brigade to put your towels out. The hotel seems quite even though there are people staying, We loved it and will definitely return later in the year. Pros Worth upgrading to the supreme bungalows with the hot tub. The rooms are big and the balcony is huge also has a outside BBQ and sink. Hot tub, just leave it on and after 12 hrs you have a very hot tub. Keep the lid on whilst your not using it. The restaurant food is plenty full, I have seen previous comments that the breakfast is repetitious, there is cereal, breads, cheeses, fruits, porridge, and a variety of hot food. I don’t know what the people are complaining about as back home I only eat cereal or toast, so not sure what they eat everyday at home !! Evening meal there is the buffet but they also give you the option of a different main meal, which they cook for you and is part of your plan. The reception staff are great and anything not working they fixed it straight away. There is a bus stop right outside the door and that takes you into playa Blanca for €1.40 , which you can the get connecting buses to other parts of the island, a taxi back from the Marina is around €4 if you didn’t want to walk back. A supermarket and a few bars and restaurants are within a 5 min walk if you didn’t want to walk into the Rubicon or catch a bus. Papagayo beach’s are spectacular but you need good trainers as it’s a very rocky and hilly walk up and down to get to them. You wouldn’t be able to push a buggy or wheel chair to them, you also need to take your own food and drink. It’s only a 1.89 mile walk to the beaches but due to the routes it will take you about an hour to get to them, walking in flip flops is a no no. The gym is open it’s not big but ok if you feel you need a little workout. The sauna is open too although didn’t use it. Cons The bathrooms could with updating if they want to keep it as a 4 star, but they are clean. The outdoor pool is freezing, would be nice if it was heated. The area of Los Colorados is very residential and laid back, if your looking for nightlife, karaoke etc..then you would need to stay in del carmen. If you want to chill out, with no loud music, good food then this is the hotel. There were a couple of families with very small babies and toddlers, but the majority of people were middle aged and mainly german and French., which didn’t bother us. We loved it and will definitely return later in the year.

Disappointing hotel

Apr 2022 | cmplayle

We are a family of two adults and two teenagers, who chose the superior deluxe bungalow, for a touch of luxury. Disappointing is most definately how I would describe this hotel and its facilities. Due to its lack of facilities, its more of a two star. We were half board and could change our evening meal to lunch but having real difficulty buying a drink, or bottle of water during the day from the pool bar, was one of the biggest let downs, as it was only open from 19.00hrs-22.00hrs. We were told to ring the bell on the bar and we would be served during the day but be prepared for a long wait. There was also no facility to buy any sort of snack during the day and we were told we could not upgrade to All inclusive for a few days when we complained. There is a shop about a 10 minute walk away, which I guess we expected to use, given we were half board but I've never stayed anywhere where you can't buy a plate of chips or a toastie during the day, if you're having an evening meal on a night...especially at a four star hotel!! The gym and sauna were also closed, which the Jet2 Rep seemed surprised about, as she informed us that facilities should have reopened following covid. They've had plenty of time to update brochures if this is not the case, as you are not getting what you are paying for. Bungalows are spacious but in need of updating. Avoid number 7 if you can, as the view is appalling and the terrace is extremely overlooked by the car park and everyone coming and going. We did complain and asked to move, as we were certainly not getting what had been described but it never happened (that's another story). We had to ask for the whirlpool water to be changed, as there was a layer of grime on the top and no one came to top up the chlorine..not very hygienic given current climate. Food was basic and typical of all inclusive buffets, although the chefs did accommodate to cook fresh omelettes to order for breakfast, which was a bonus. The staff are friendly and helpful and I'm sure are doing their best to make people welcome but if you have a late flight and arrive after 22.00hrs like we did, be prepared for reception to be closed and waitering staff clearing the restaurant, to show you into your accommodation. The water is freezing cold in the pool and dirty towels and plastic cups were left lying around, with no one clearing things away. This made it difficult to know which sunbeds were free, as people had just left them. There are some lovely bars locally, Alfie's bar in the little local shopping complex is recommended and it's about 25 minutes walk to Rubicon marina. We hired a car for three days, definately worth doing and taking a trip up to Timanfaya but go early, as the queues of cars were ridiculous...it was Easter half term though. Overall we made the most of our holiday, despite being incredibly disappointed by the hotel but would not return.

Has it's merits but NOT for families

Visited this hotel in early April and was impressed by the rooms, although a little tired, the seperate bedroom and bathroom was really handy with our two children. Hot tub was a nice addition but I question the dosing of the chemicals in the water and there seemed to be a lot of grit in the bottom of ours. Huge balcony with outdoor loungers and seating was great. Location suited us as it was very quiet at one end of Playa Blanca and 25mins into the Marina along the coastal path or 4 Euro in a taxi. Food was good in the Evening with a choice of 5 prepared main meals or the usual buffet fare and was perfectly fine for us. However, the things that let this place down is the AI as the Bar Staff did not seem to be bothered whenever anyone wanted a drink and were rarely at the bar. We once found a bar menu but as soon as we wanted anything such as a cocktail the waiter muttered something, said there were no spirits left and snatched the menu out of our hands to be put back behind the bar. We saw another Jet2 family move to another hotel purely for this reason. A shame as the staff in the restaurants were generally lovely along with the ladies on reception who couldn't be more helpful. There is also another room next to Reception where you can help yourself to various drinks with a Fridge but there were a couple of days where this wasn't restocked with any Wine or ice cubes. As for the pool this was OK with enough sun beds but a shock that Children couldn't have inflatables in the pool. This seemed to be the only Hotel in Playa Blanca with this policy and as a hotel that was marketed as Family friendly I would assume this was a given especially considering that the pool had a lifeguard on duty. There was a family with 2 small children in the pool with a new inflatable Crocodile having fun which was nice to see but not after long the Jet2 Rep was called in to ask the family to remove it which was disappointing to see two upset small children crying. Anyway, this is another discussion point that should be taken up with the Jet2 marketing department. We noticed the same cups/rubbish and dirty towels in the pool area for at least three consecutive days but I won't judge as I assume the staff are stretched, maybe cuts due to Covid? As I said earlier, there are some lovely staff here (just not my friends at the bar!) I would recommend this place for couples and maybe families with teens/older children but if I would suggest taking Half Board or breakfast only and then head out into the lovely Marina in the Evening.
