Santa Monica Suites Suites Hotel is a hotel that overlooks the sand dunes of Maspalomas, one of Gran Canaria's most recognizable sights. The hotel is steps away from Playa del Ingles, which is a popular holiday destination that's home to a sandy beach lined with bars and restaurants. Santa Monica Suites Suites Hotel has a swimming pool with a sun terrace that overlooks the sand dunes. Palm trees and tropical shrubs add color to the area. There's also a separate pool for children. If you're looking to unwind, the hotel has a relaxation section with a sauna, and offers massages and beauty treatments. If you want to stay active during your holiday, you can make use of the gym. A buffet restaurant at the hotel offers breakfast and dinner, while an ala carte restaurant specializes in local and international cuisine for dinner. You can enjoy light dishes and snacks at the poolside bar, or sip a drink on the sofas in another bar that overlooks the hotel's pool area. If you want to eat or drink outside of the hotel, the Cita shopping center and the Yumbo Centrum shopping center, home to more than 200 shops and restaurants, are both within walking distance.

Santa Monica is 200m from the lively Playa del Ingles beach and Cita shopping center, featuring fashion boutiques, jewellery stores, local shops, bars and restaurants. The center of Maspalomas, a short drive from the hotel, has several family-friendly attractions including a water park and the Holiday World theme park. The sand dunes of Maspalomas offer you the chance to go sand boarding. If you're a fan of outdoor adventure, you can also hike to the top of Pico de las Nieves, the highest point of the island, from which you can see the Teide volcano on Tenerife.

The hotel offers a buffet for both breakfast and dinner. The ala carte restaurant serves Canarian specialities such as fresh seafood and patatas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes), as well as a range of international dishes. The poolside bar offers drinks throughout the day and into the evening. There's also another bar at the hotel.

Within walking distance of the hotel, at the Cita shopping center, evening entertainment such as music and karaoke are on offer at bars and nightclubs. There are yoga and taichi classes at the hotel several times a week.

Rooms at Santa Monica are bright and airy with contemporary furnishings and neutral color schemes. All come with air conditioning and a TV with satellite channels.

Good, but we were slightly disappointed

Booked the hotel on a previous visit, mostly due to the fantastic location and luxury appearance. Had a good time, but some details were lacking, therefore disappointing us a little. Must admit we are spoilt travelers… Room was spacious, well equipped, nice was the seating area. We had booked the de luxe option, guaranteeing a room on the top floor. This worked out well, views were superb. Minibar, a massage and a visit to the a la carte restaurant were included per full week of booking. As we stayed for nearly three weeks, we got to experience this. Bed was very good, comfortable,pillows. Beds are on wheels and even though brakes were applied, the beds moved occasionally. Cleaning was generally good, however on one occasion some crumbles were spilt and ended up under the bed. Three days later this was cleaned. Also we have had to ask for replenishing toiletries which we have never had to do in other hotels with a comparable price. The lack of coffee and tea making facilities was disappointing. We brought our own stuff, but this is something we expect in any hotel we book, again, especially when looking at the price range. Staff was sufficient, however we experienced differences. Some were very friendly and engaging, others seemed to be going through the motions, didn’t go out of their way to make sure guests had an excellent time. Breakfastbuffet was excellent, everything we could have wanted was supplied. The a la carte restaurant opens 4 nights a week. Therefore the routine seems to be lacking. Service and the kitchen staff were dividing time between the restaurant and the buffet. It didn’t appear well-oiled, the food options were ok, but nothing memorable. All in all an ok stay. We won’t say we won’t return, but we will be looking at other options first.

Lovely hotel not for children

Lovely hotel on the dunes very friendly check in lovely reception staff very helpful Great position on the dunes you could walk for miles the hotel is on the edge of the town which is nice as the town centre is quite seedy and busy with strip shows lots of swingers clubs and German bars if you like that kind of thing.. not a lot for children I would choose a different resort town with children I think it’s unpleasant for children there. And not enough for them to do this resort is for open minded couples The hotel was clean our room was spotless and the room cleaning staff cleaning our room were friendly and did a great job on level 5 The only down side for us was some of the staff at breakfast every morning are So Moody! They really don’t like there job there Especially Carmen!! And another female staff member They ran out of cups in breakfast service I ask a female staff member and she just ignored me and walked off and yes she definitely heard me but she couldn’t be bothered then a guy came over and asked me what I wanted and he sorted it immediately as there was a que building for coffee and people where looking for cups.. and please let the lady cooking the eggs get off that station and do something else she was so miserable and moody when you are on holiday the last thing you want is moody staff at breakfast it was a shame they let the hotel down as so much about this hotel is good but the female breakfast staff are miserable

Relaxing week with wonderful views

Have had a very relaxing week here with wonderful views from our 5th floor room and every day we have enjoyed a beautiful sunrise. The beds and pillows are really comfortable and my usual neck issues improved considerably. We usually stay at another popular hotel, but decided to try this one for a change, mainly to enjoy its position on the dunes. The sauna is wonderful and I will continue using one when back home as I really felt the benefits. As others have said, a kettle would be a huge bonus, to enjoy an early morning coffee, as I don’t eat breakfast early and a bigger fridge to store water. The staff were friendly enough, but I really did not appreciate being shouted at for carrying an orange out of the restaurant. The member of staff shouted loudly “madam that is not allowed!!” I can understand why you are not allowed to take food out of the restaurant, but I was not carrying a free lunch, but just a single piece of fruit, and I didn’t enjoy the scolding. I know this wouldn’t have happened at our usual hotel, to which we will return in the future. Overall, it’s a very-well run hotel but the breakfast experience just spoilt it for me and it felt too regimented in general, compared to the relaxed and welcoming vibe at our usual hotel.
