Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort & Thalasso is a hotel with traditional high ceilings and architecture in the Canary Island style. It's in Meloneras, a seaside corner of the resort of Maspalomas in Gran Canaria. The hotel is designed in the style of a holiday village, with a central square and pool area set in palm tree-filled gardens. It's a short walk from the sandy beach. The hotel is home to five bars, two buffet restaurants and two a la carte restaurants, including one poolside and a barbecue grill restaurant. Evening entertainment is available several times a week. The spa, which has rooms with sea views, specialises in thalassotherapy, a saltwater treatment for the skin. Alternatively, you can enjoy the saltwater pool, whirlpool, sauna and steam room, or one of the six outdoor pools. Families with children can also splash around in the kids pool. The local resorts of Maspalomas and neighbouring Playa del Ingles are popular with visitors for their range of bars and restaurants, along with the Maspalomas golf course. Couples can enjoy a romantic walk along the dunes, while families might like to visit local theme parks such as Aqualand Maspalomas, a water park with twisting water chutes, slides and a bubble pool. For those who fancy holiday shopping, the nearest shopping centre is a short walk away. Alternatively, you may like to visit the larger Yumbo Centrum mall in Playa del Ingles, where you'll have more than 200 shops, cafes and cabaret bars to choose from.
The hotel is 500m from Playa de Meloneras beach on Gran Canaria's southern coast. It's 600m from the nearest centre at Varadero shopping mall. Maspalomas is a convenient base if you want to visit other parts of Gran Canaria, as it has access to the two highways that run around and across the whole island. Maspalomas is popular for its sandy beaches and dunes, as well as its tourist attractions, which include a cinema and a golf course. Families can enjoy a visit to the saloons and cowboy shows at the Wild West-themed Sioux City Park. If you're looking for nightlife, there are local clubs a short drive away. You may also like to enjoy an evening away in the neighbouring resort of Playa del Ingles, known for having one of Gran Canaria's liveliest nightlife scenes. The bars at Yumbo Centrum shopping mall in Playa del Ingles are 4.5km away.
You can get breakfast and dinner at one of the buffet restaurants. During your holiday, you may like to look out for mojo rojo, a spicy red sauce that's popular in Gran Canarian cuisine. For an extra kick, try mojo picon, a chilli variety.
The kids club runs from Monday to Saturday. The spa is normally for 18 years and over, but welcomes 12- to 18-year-olds accompanied by adults once a week.
All the rooms have air conditioning, Wi-Fi and satellite TV. There's a safe for your valuables, and baby cots are also available.

Disappointing Anniversary Holiday
We booked the hotel for our annual wedding anniversary holiday and informed of the date in advance. On arrival at the hotel we formed part of a very long queue at reception and were eventually checked in by an abrupt man who wasn't welcoming. I informed that we were celebrating our anniversary and he glanced at the computer screen and gave a nod, handed us a map of the hotel layout with pen marked crosses indicating where our room was located and left us to find it amongst the maize of buildings and long corridors that form this extensively laid out complex. It can be very challenging finding your room! On a positive note, our luggage was delivered promptly. Our room was located beside the quiet pool and our peaceful balcony had a sea and garden view. Positives Spacious bright room kept very clean Walk in Dressing Room with ample space Spacious bathroom with separate shower cubicle Negatives Bedside shelves only with no drawers No fridge only a stocked mini bar Limited wall sockets No fluffy towels Difficult to squeeze wall mounted containers of shampoo and conditioner in shower and handwash at washbasin Our first experience of dinner in the restaurant wasn't good. We had to join a large queue waiting to get their room key scanned and shown a table. Not pleasant dining as everyone balancing plates and trying to avoid colliding with others. We felt it was like ants running all over the place. Quality of food very poor and mainly cold for this hotel's rating. Items not replenished quickly enough. We noted that the Unique section of the hotel provided guests with ratan sunbeds topped with thick padded mattresses. All other pool areas had uncomfortable sunloungers covered in a nylon webbing. Quite a number had a big gap between base and back and I saw lots of people putting a rolled up towel at the base of their spines. Not a 5 star poolside experience. On the day of our wedding anniversay we didn't receive a gesture of wine, cake or flowers. We were very disappointed as this was the first time a hotel hasn't acknowledged our special day. If you are celebrating a special occassion I do hope that the your day is acknowledged and you are not disappointed. Thankfully we went out to dinner that evening and avoided the chaotic buffet restaurant. We watched evening entertainment in the huge Plaza on one occassion. Three waiters trying to take orders and serve drinks was dreadfully slow. Lots of people trying to place an order and it took 25 mins to get our drinks. My husband went to the bar and was informed that it was waiter service only. We left after one drink and we also noticed a table of German guests leave as they had waited too long for service. The waiters were very stressed having to deal with 100 plus people. We preferred to go out in the evening and have a more relaxed experience. Hotel have started a new system whereby you hand over a credit card and they allocate a daily credit to your account. I checked my online banking and was alarmed that 700 euros was pending in my account. I called reception and was asked to come in person so that the new system could be explained as it should have been when we checked in. Once you settle your bill they cancel the reserved amount. Our was cancelled on the 2nd day of arriving home. Another huge queue at checkout which took 25mins to get to front desk. Worst ever check out. People beside us were querying bills with one couple being charged for spa services that they hadn't received. For us it was an anniversary holiday not to remember. So disappointing as the hotel had been on our wish list
Sub standard dining for a supposed to be, quality hotel.
My wife and I had just moved from the Rui Palace hotel in Maspalomas, which was magnificent in every way. We had been to The Villa del Conde before and expected to have the same experience as we had just had in The Rui Palace. We were wrong and very disappointed. We had booked half board and now wished we hadn’t. Most mornings and evenings we had to queue to gain entrance. In the evenings this was particularly uncomfortable as it was cold. On gaining entrance we most times had standby our table as it was being prepared. Then the real disappointment kicked in. To be honest The restaurant was akin to a fast food court with people buzzing about all over the place, The presentation of food was disgraceful for, a supposed to be, quality establishment, with raw meat and chicken lying side by side on platters. The choice and quality of food paled into comparison with the food we had just enjoyed at the Rui Palace. In the evening we had, most times, finished our first course before being offered a drink. A completely awful experience. On leaving the restaurant we were told that the entertainment was taking place in the outside courtyard. With temperatures under 10 degrees and no heating equipment, you had to have your mufflers on to keep warm. Needless to say my wife and I went to nearby bar for entertainment. Finally, although our restaurant experience was very poor and entertainment location was not fit for purpose , I must complement the bar staff at the pool and the people that serviced our room for first class work.
Lovely hotel for a spring break
Given some of the reviews previously written about the hotel, we were a little bit anxious about our holiday. However we have found the hotel to be clean, well laid out and our room exceptional. We booked the Unique package which offers a designated breakfast area, reserved sun beds around a pool and a lounge which offers complementary cold drinks and snacks during the day. The food at breakfast was varied and warm. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, and tried the hotel buffet one evening. The buffet was well organised, and I experienced staff who were fastidious about food hygiene. I would recommend the hotel and hopefully at some point we will return.
