Extraordinarily Good Hotel

Jan 2022 | Suffolkhotelmanager
I’m a regular visitor to the Occidental Jandia Playa Hotel. However, to celebrate my birthday, I decided to upgrade to the Royal Level. In England I’m a Hotel Manager so it’s been a tough spell there so I treated myself! There is quite a difference in price, but I can honestly say it is worth every euro! Royal level gives you access to additional swimming pools, restaurants and bars. You still have full access to all of the amenities/entertainment etc in the Occidental Jandia Playa so it really is the best of both worlds. Restaurants consist of a very good buffet set up or themed restaurant nights in the Canarias restaurant. There are a few comments about the food not being hot but the easy option here is to grab a hot plate and go for the freshly cooked catch or cut of the day. The Seabass, Monkfish and King prawns particularly have been very good and a friendly chef stands in front of you cooking it. Quite often for lunch I will make use of the main buffet restaurant where Ammadou always looks after me. If you are a fan of good quality drinks, then this alone should persuade you to upgrade to the Royal level. All the regular international drinks are available, these include Martin Miller gin, Tanqueray 10 gin, Grey Goose vodka and Glennfiddich whisky…. Not forgetting obviously that these are free poured and with top quality bottled mixers, so a regular gin and tonic here with these measures would in my hotels be around £25 each! The evening bar, called the Green bar is currently being overseen by Francisco, who has stepped up to chief Barman in the absence of others. A really nice guy, calm even when under pressure and his espresso martinis are the talk of the Royal level! (This guy must be due a day off though)! The Atlantico pool bar is overseen by Carmelo, the best Pina Colada’s ever and always smiling…. Look out for his slush puppies at 4pm Moulay as ever is the star of the show…. Popping up at any one of the bars, he was awesome over Christmas and New Year. The lovely girls, Laura and Venni at breakfast who have my special order coffee (sin canela) on the table before I can even order it. I mention a few of the staff but each and every one are smily, smart and helpful. The impeccably dressed Oskar and Albertino along with the helpful girls oversee the Front Desk. A really nice bell-boy with long hair assisted me with my luggage to the room making use of a golf buggy to do so, a trip in one of these around the site is awesome, make sure you hold tight though! I did have a couple of minor issues with the room, however Alicia from the guest relations team had these dealt with almost immediately. A Hotel is as good as it’s management team and the Assistant Hotel Manager Jose Gonzalez Sanz is the epitome of the perfect hands on manager. Time for the guests, time for the staff and a watchful eye on what is going on, a great leader yet personable chap. A shuttle bus will take you down to the gorgeous beaches every morning or it’s about a 10 minute walk down cardiac hill if you fancy it! For Sports fans, the Boot and Ball pub below the hotel is now shut, however Andy the boss has opened Strada sports in Morro Jable Old Town…. About €4.50 in a taxi, he is next to Nomads burger joint as also does food at the weekends too. 72” screens with all the football/rugby etc…..Give him a look. The sunsets at this end of town are amazing too. I recommend wholeheartedly the Royal Level and if it’s slightly out of your budget you’ll still have an amazing time at The Occidental Jandia Playa (see separate review). Happy Holidays Folks Richard

Strongly recommended. Royal Level offers a well provided buffet, three swimming pools and wide terraces for sunbathing. Great rooms, well furbished. Access to the beach is easy, and location is good to visit the southern half of the island and it's great beaches
