Wasn’t Perfect…

I would like to give this 3.5 stars but was only able to select whole numbers We booked Sandals Barbados for 10 nights for our honeymoon, both hotels are situated right on its beautiful beaches the hotel grounds are impeccably clean and staff really do their upmost to keep it this way however, we did have a couple of negatives to our honeymoon. We stayed in room 3408 and the room didn’t look exactly like the photos, our bathroom wasn’t very nice and had mould stains round the edges. The bed however, was lovely and the pillows the softest we have laid on and really did get a good night sleep (please be aware there are cockerels and they do start cock-a-doodle-doing at anywhere from 4 in the morning although, this didn’t really bother us it is something to note) we had a lovely view with the sun shining on our balcony in the afternoon so was lovely to relax outside after a day sunbathing The food is the best we’ve had from an all-inclusive, we loved the variety and restaurant experience however, the service at times can be painfully slow, we waited over an hour on more than one occasion and the staff don’t tend to apologise or give any recognition for the fact that you’ve been waiting so long, this happened at times when the restaurants weren't as busy either so was unsure what the issues were. I wouldn’t say the staff are rude but I wouldn’t say they are particularly friendly either? 90% of them really aren’t very happy and come across as miserable and really think this is down to the fact you can’t tip, I think being able to tip provides more of an incentive to want to do and perform more, we are only humans at the end of the day and I think an incentive to staff would go a long way to better all round service and I think the proof is in the Butler service where members are able to tip, the service appeared amazing for those who had paid for it The remaining 10% were lovely, we had excellent service at Butch Chop Shop both times we went and the entertainment staff are really friendly and talkative Sandals pride themselves on being able to cater for those with dietary requirements, I have coeliacs which requires me to follow a strict gluten free diet and the promo video on the website gave me real confidence however my expectations fell short. Upon arrival I notified the front desk and she honestly looked at me as though she had no idea what I was going on about and told me that if I needed gluten free I just had to ask at the restaurant I was eating at and they will let me know however the promo video doesn’t advertise this? I see a chef service where someone who has coeliac sits down and goes through menus and is discussing options and chefs going above and beyond to make things specifically? I asked one day for gluten free crepes which I then found out had to be ordered the day before I actually wanted them which is fine but I had to order them at the concierge table which is the first time I was ever made aware when I arrived I found the two ladies less than helpful and felt more like a burden that this email had to be sent to order them in, at the end I was asked if I needed anything else ordered in but had no idea what I could and couldn’t have? I don’t think it’s down to me to ask I think it’s down to the hotel and staff to assist me and let me know my options and how they can best cater for me? Not me having to ask a million and one questions to get some sort of answer. The menus are very confusing also, they have a symbol at the bottom where it says ‘can be made gluten free’ but this symbol is hardly anywhere on any of the menus for example the pancakes can be made gluten free but doesn’t have the symbol next to it? I also thing there is a general lack of understand of my condition, for example a gluten free pizza takes nearly an hour to make so my partner ordered well before lunch to ensure we had them when we wanted and the server asked him if he was sure wanted gluten free as it’s going to take longer? Gluten free is not a choice for me I have a medical condition that requires care and knowledge which I feel lacked significantly One particular day I asked for gluten free hash browns, the server came out 30 minutes later with hash browns that weren’t gluten free even though I had asked and then just took them off of the same plate with the other food on? My plate was already contaminated with gluten so my food should have been prepared fresh again and wasn’t and then was told that if I wanted gluten free hash browns I would have to wait even longer and by this point I was just fed up and went without The only places I generally felt looked after again was the Merry Monkey and Butch’s Chop Shop. One of our servers got me gluten free bread with my starter and went through the menu with me to tell me what I could and definitely couldn’t have and what they could potentially make for me and that was the level of service I expected all round and only ever got a three times out of 3 meals a day for 10 nights. Unfortunately for us we aren’t a couple who complain and we really didn’t want to dampen our honeymoon by doing so but wish at points we had, the reality of it is we booked a Sandals resort for its excellent reviews and recommendations and feel like we shouldn’t really have the issues mentioned above in the first place we had a lovely time together but we won’t be returning any time soon

Short trip to Sandals Barbados - May 2022

We recently returned from our third trip to Sandals Barbados and our stay was wonderful! We have become quite regular Sandals visitors in recent years although we have also travelled to Barbados and several other caribbean islands staying at a range of other hotels over the last 20 plus years. We do keep returning to Sandals though and this time we stayed on the original Sandals Barbados side in a swim up room. Any stress from the journey disappeared as soon as we were shown to our room. We only had seven nights this time so were determined to make the most of our time. Being able to access the warm pool direct from our room certainly helped with this. We also spent time at the sky pool although the water there was a bit cool for our taste this time round. Our favourite restaurants on this trip were Portofinos, La Parisienne (for breakfast with stunning views) and Neptunes for lunch. I love Neptunes proximity to the beach and the water. The food was also delicious! We also tried the Green House and although the food we chose didn't turn out as well as hoped we will try them again next time. It's great to have seamless access to all facilities across the two hotel sites (Barbados and Royal Barbados) and this is definitely a plus point for us. We found all staff at both locations to be happy, pleasant and helpful especially Damien, Lakeisha and Kelly- Anne (La Parisienne), Reco (various locations including Neptunes) and Alicia at the American Tavern to be outstanding. Alicia and Reco went out of their way to help us find our way to the newer parts of the hotel when we were short of time. I also ought to mention the skipper on the Sandals boat trip (didn't get his name) who went to great lengths to help me to get on/off the boat at low tide when I was having problems with my knee. The only problem we had during our stay was the wifi signal in our room. My phone was acting up so I needed to use the hotel wifi. This was resolved part way through our stay by the IT people and I was then able to use my phone in the room without difficulty. All in all a really fabulous holiday and we will definitely return to Sandals Barbados as soon as we can.

You must try the signature Marrini at Butch's chophouse . Mad scientist George the bartender is the "Bomb" and makes a mean martini, he will personally stop to verify you loved your drink. Also a hands down favorite waiter Brian for the quick and wonderful service. This place has it all.
