What's the weather like in Cambodia in May?
Cambodia is a stunning country in Southeast Asia, bordering Vietnam to the east and Thailand to the north-west. It has a monsoon climate which brings warm weather all year round, as well as distinct wet and dry seasons. In May, the hot, dry spring is turning into the wet summer across much of Cambodia, and there can be lots of rain in some parts of the country. If you don’t mind working around the downpours, the wet season can be a beautiful time to visit Cambodia, with the fresh air and striking landscapes.
Averages
In the capital Phnom Penh, the average temperature in May is 30ºC, with highs of 34ºC and lows of 26ºC, making air conditioning a must-have. Half of the days are forecast to have wet weather, and the city expects around 165mm of rain in total this month. Temperatures are identical further north in Siem Reap, which predicts a little less rain over the course of the month. If you’re staying in one of Cambodia’s coastal destinations, the Gulf of Thailand’s waters are a beautiful 31ºC in May, perfect for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving.
