Disappointed
Well, first thing, this hotel is not disabled people or babies friendly. No lifts at all and receptionist people don’t bother too much to get them a room on the ground floor. We’re not impressed with the breakfast quality and when asked for a highchair for our baby was given us a highchair so so so unsafe that our baby would fall on the floor straight (no straps to hold him - see picture). Asked the waiter and the grumpy answer was something like this: “complains upstairs in the reception“. Very noisy, no pool robes available,
Bad experience
Hello everyone, We was visiting Madeira with family, and with the kid who was 5 years old, the island is beautiful, but our stay in the hotel was not good at all. We had bed and breakfast included for 10 nights, breakfast every day was the same, (if you are a vegetarian, this will be a problem) tasteless, coffee, I don’t know , it was like a water with the smell of the coffee. In the rooms you don’t have wi-fi (this was the first hotel where we been, where was no wi-fi, you have wi-fi only next to reception) in the rooms you didn’t have a kettle and cups, just to drink a simple coffee or tea, we needed to buy it from coffee shops. When we was booking hotel it was saying that hotel has 4 ⭐️ , when we arrived, next to the doors it was only 3 ⭐️ and when we arrived our rooms was not ready, we needed to wait 2,5h till our rooms will be ready , on the pictures when we was making our booking was kitchen, microwave and everything what you need. But when we arrived, the rooms was empty (we booked 2 rooms) they saw that we was coming with the child, and there was not even a bed for a child, we needed to put 2 beds together to make a bigger bed to sleep, and obviously they was splitting at night when we was sleeping. Toilet in our room was leaking, every night we needed to close the water in the toilet to not to hear the water at night and in the morning to turn back on. To wash your clothes, this was the problem as well, for every peace of your clothes, you needed to pay money, for skirt is one price, for dress another.. utt. (Picture of the price list attached) when you have a kid this is not an option at all. The good thing was that the rooms get cleaned every day, thank you for that. Swimming pools was nice and clean as well. Staff was nice, but not all of them. All overall, I will not recommend this hotel if you are traveling with kids.
A great base - book it!
We stayed B&B in connected rooms with our teens - Spacious rooms are basic (80's vibe) but no complaints for the price we paid. No signs of local teen life - hang outs/bars but Great locals vibe - families out eating, not just tourists - very safe, very pleasant. Some accommodation 'blocks' are up the road from the main reception, only a short walk away and several local mini-markets and restaurants cafes are near. All decent quality - we ate out locally and in Funchal. Positives - lovely gardens and several attractive pools to choose from (chilly water temp in feb but teens didnt mind when the sun was shining) Attractive views from balcony as we had ground floor garden rooms. Breakfast on the hotel terrace was a pleasant way to start the day. Breakfast is decent if you like continental hams, cheeses etc. Bread lovers will be happy :) its fresh and delicious. Plentiful fresh pastries and cake etc. Negatives - No kitchenette which was disappointing, (saw plenty in the photos) so no tea and coffee facility in our room, but we got over it. Mattresses are HARD so if you prefer a softie like me - take a topper! Soft pillows were decent. Hot breakfast selection is limited - crumbly scrambled egg (not great), mini sausages and beans every day. Wifi is only available in the main reception but this is by the indoor pool area so its manageable. The local Garajau beach is an experience not to miss - we negotiated the rocks and enjoyed a swim. The steep cable car down to a great restaurant by the sea - dont miss it! Madeira is hilly but plenty of taxis available and the bus stops close to hotel. Oh and always say yes when offered 'traditional' garlic bread - its so good...
