Avoid this disappointing place
Hotel came highly recommended by a few friends who stayed there a few years ago, but unfortunately didn’t get anywhere near expectations. Kids club - really only for younger kids with very little activities (none) around the pool during the day. Didn’t see any mascots during our week stay there and possibly one of the biggest disappointments. Football was offered but wasn’t aware of a 30e per child fee. Hotel has no entertainment for adults or kids in evening and is basically dead with no atmosphere - No shuttle bus into town - about 5km away so had to get Uber or taxi anywhere. Service in all bars wasn’t great - although staff nice - over twenty minutes to get a drink sometimes. Although breakfast buffet was well done - and nice - food and drink was overpriced throughout the hotel and pretty average. Room with bunk beds was very small and outdoor balcony was tired and dated and furniture old. Air on switched itself off all the time. Cobwebs in some parts of the corridors. Indoor pool area was quite nice but main pool area was quite dated and dangerous in places (loose slabs etc). Hotel was not cheap and I’ve stayed in better 3* places. Avoid.
Too expensive for an outdated hotel and poor food quality
I was recommended to stay in this hotel by a group of friends who live in Porto, stressing this was the best hotel, etc.….Our experience was very disappointing. The hotel is located in a nice area with gardens and playgrounds for children, but this is the most I can give as a positive for this hotel and the list of negative aspects follow: - Rooms are outdated - likely 15-20 years ago, this was a great hotel - but for a hotel that charges 600 euros/night, it is unacceptable. Carpets are old and worn-out (all over the hotel). The bathroom also is worn-out - we could not use the bathtub as it was all stained. - The air-conditioner was broken when we arrived, showing this is an old hotel - it was late when they came to our room (about 9pm) and then the maintenance person said, I need to change the motor and will take 1 to 2hs….meaning we would need to get out and come back at 11pm….we then slept in a hot room….and no offer of changing rooms! - Now comes the worst part: food is not good. We ordered room service on the first night - the food came in some weird boxes (my wife mentioned looks like food for dogs) - instead of nicely presented in plates and brought in a cart - on the opposite, this looks like a uber eats delivery - literally and not a 5-star hotel. We ordered pasta and fish and chicken - all tasteless and tasted like re-heated food from the buffet that was there for hours. - Breakfast was the same terrible experience: food also very plain and the worst part, it was a bit dirty the restaurant. The plates smelled as eggs (likely not well washed) and I ordered tea and the tea holder was dirty (not properly cleaned). I actually then stopped having breakfast (even that I paid) and we had lunch and dinner in the city give the lack of quality of the food. - Finally, to complete this experience, the kids club was terrible. First, we only learned that we need to reserve with 24hs when we arrived, no emails and nothing explained, meaning you will likely lose the first day in the kid's clubs for your kids and also it seems there is a limit, meaning you may not have space for your kids. The kids club employees were rude and did not care about our frustration. Anyway, this hotel is being poorly managed, given the deterioration of the hotel, physically and also in terms of personnel. At the very least, if this is their goal, they should be downgraded to a 3-star hotel and also charge 1/3 of what they charge. We would not go back there and not recommend it to anyone.
Only ok...definitely not a 5*
Positive Staff were lovely. Main hotel bright, spacious. Breakfast very good. Kids playground well thought out. Main grounds landscaped well. Negative Stayed here for 9 days as part of a large extended family celebration. 8 adults and 8 kids from ages 1-11. We had 3 villas and a suite between us. Our villa was 3k more than my siblings ones purely as we had bunkbeds in our kitchen. They were never once slept in. The 'garden' area in front of the villas is dreadful. Like its derelict. The food (bar breakfast) is bad. We once had nice food at the pool hangout but otherwise very poor standard. The evening buffet was so bad it was almost funny. For €50 a head!!! Main pool was freezing cold. Kids mainly used baby pool or spa pool. Zero entertainment in the evenings. Nothing. At 9pm it's like a ghost town. I've been lucky enough to stay in several 5* hotels around the world but this is just nowhere near the same standard. There was 8 adults in our group and not one of us would ever go back. Caiscais is beautiful but wouldn't stay here again. Vastly overpriced.
