Solo traveller review
This is my review as a first time solo traveller, female early 70's (widow). I was a little apprehensive this being my first time in a hotel abroad on my own. Chose Montegordo as been before and knew it was good for walking both through the pine woods and on the beach and quite a small compact resort however first time in the Alcazar. Check in was OK, room facing the pool, 4th floor(404) a double room for sole occupancy. Nice & spacious room, lovely comfortable bed, bedding good quality & changed regularly. No kettle but had taken my own. The balcony was adequate size with table & two chairs, it got the sun till around lunchtime (Feb/March). It was very hot out there when the sun was on it but chilly in the afternoon but I would imagine in the summer months you would be glad of the shade. It had a nice view over the woods and a sea view also. Pool area is nice but there was a chilly breeze so it was rather cool sitting out there. Bathroom had a bath with shower over, OK for me but if you're not so able that could be a problem - I think revamped rooms had walk in showers. Free shower gel/soap in dispensers & initially body lotion, this was not replaced. Meals were usually OK, some days much better than others. Breakfast didn't always have bacon but always fried or scrambled eggs & usual cereals/yogurt/ continental/juices & bread & rolls etc. Dinner usually meat, fish or vegetarian option with potatoes, veg or salad & some tasty desserts with ice-cream which you helped yourself to. Being on my own I did appreciate that an assigned table was given on the first evening and you usually kept this table throughout your stay, so no searching for a table. Wine waiters always asked what you wanted & were efficient. A mix of English, Dutch and German visitors and some young athletic groups that are usually in all the hotels this time of year. They were not noisy and were well mannered. I only used the bar area in the evening once, my choice, nothing wrong with it - just felt a bit odd on my own! If you can get a front facing room at this time of year I think it would be better( for sun later) but I did request one and got a definite 'no'. Other singles also asked & got same reply, so they do seem to put solo travellers in all the side rooms, but they are very quiet - wel unless you're talking to yourself! Some that had being going for years got front rooms which is fair enough but it would be nice if they at least tried to move you if they had the rooms - which they had. But it did not spoil the holiday, just had to plan the day more. Would I stay again, yes I would, nice clean hotel, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere, my first solo trip went well.
I agree with Mike Pauling. Good place to stapp
We have enjoyed our 10 days here. Weather ok, food good and varied , All ok. Leandro the bar manager excelled, All reception and restaurant staff, room/ housekeeping staff great, We had a really good holiday.
Lovely hotel in good location
This hotel is just 5 minutes walk from the beach at Monte Gordo. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are immaculate. The beds extremely comfortable. I stayed 7 nights half.board and always found something to my liking at breakfast and evening meal although the food in the evening had some strange combinations. Would definitely return.
