Not 5 star

May 2022 | V2050RBmartins

Not 5 star. It's another multi financial income stream resort with a lot of empty apartments not being used and the facilities reflect the fact people who are often here are not demanding 5 star. In the US this would be 3 star, maybe 4 at a push. Before you write me off as a moaning American bore, I'm neither American or a bore and I appreciate these are 1st world moans, but we've been to others nearby and saved hard for this, it's just not 5 star and these details need fixing... Why not 5 star? Examples; 1) reception couldn't supply any basics after one of our bags had been lost in transit, 2) they don't deliver 'room service' food or drink to your room/apartment/villa, 3) sauna out of order, 4) hot tub water stank of feet, 5) zero complimentary anything upon arrival, 6) not the best grounds, 7) indoor swimming pool handrail missing exposing her dangerous sharp step edges your kids could just jump into, 8) average evening meals not a spot on local restaurants, 9) old school TV channel system, 10) old school DVD player and no DVD's in site, 11) air conditioning wouldn't work despite following the manual - we've seen the reviews saying it does but not for us so we had to have someone look at it, 11) zero local information on places to go, maps, restaurants, places of interest in the room welcome pack and internal hotel TV channel useless other than photos of the place you can see with your own eyes, 12) no tables or chairs on the upstairs balcony so you have to carry up the ones from the back garden or just don't use the balcony which then becomes a complete waste of space, 13) warning, don't carry the chairs from downstairs up to your balcony unless you are prepared to get rust water from the furniture leaking all over your clothes and over anything else you walk past in the apartment (jeez, basics!), 14) half the staff are not multilingual (I know, I shouldn't be so ignorant but I'm not, I can speak all the basics, but it's annoying to have a very friendly eager member of staff come over to you only to then turn around to the same 2 other members of staff to understand exactly what you want (again, basics), 15) unreliable Wi-Fi upstairs in our apartment, worked ok with our old iPhone downstairs but not an up-to-date android - maybe the new phone? Who knows, shrug, but annoying. 16) you get the idea. It's ok but don't expect the best, which for me, 5 star should be, it's 4 star at best. (Please don't tell me just because it has a dishwasher and dodgy Wi-Fi/ TV it's considered 5 star!) Despite my 1st world moans enjoy, but demand more! :)

The hotel is very poor

Apr 2022 | Sammi A

I felt compelled to write about the issues at the hotel, I travel often and with kids and there were so many areas that need improving, maybe this will help them improve and make it better for others as we won't be going back again. Summary of my experience: When we arrived on the first night there was only 1 bottle of water in the room for 5 people and you have to drink bottle water there was no way to get more. On arrival the check in lady said the phone lines were not working she said someone was looking into it. After one week there was no change, they are just saving money. Just like there were no brochures on anything about the hotel they just whats app you everything. The sauna broke on the first morning, we asked when it would be fixed they said soon, after one week it hadn't been looked at and was still broken. All of the outside pools were freezing not one was heated and the inside pool was cold too it was hardly heated. The jacuzzi looked in terrible shape they pumped water via a hose from the shower, it was dirty. The gym only opens at 9am! How is anyone supposed to exercise before breakfast like a lot of people do, I messaged them about this to ask if they could open earlier their response was there is an outside fitness circuit. There is an outside fitness circuit which is mostly for kids, this is not a replacement to the gym. We also tried to use the football/tennis court instead but this also only opened at 9.30am. There were also no staff and no clean towels beyond 7pm by the pool. The food at breakfast was average, it was identical every single day. The coffee was terrible, it is an automatic nescafe machine - not what you expect when they say it is a 5 star hotel. It is buffet style scrambled eggs etc. We had lunch one day and the food was really poor, we ate out every single lunch and dinner and we heard a number of other people complain also, they really need to up the quality of the food. Although as an emergency we turned up at dinner with 3 kids one evening at 8pm to go to dinner (this was a last minute choice as the kids were really tired) we got there and they said have you booked? We said no, they said we don't have a table for 1 hour...even though we were staying in the hotel, no one told us we had to pre-book dinner. We left and walked to an amazing pizza place a 15 minute walk away. The staff were rude, the shouted at my partner on two occasions. The best bit was on the last night my daughter was really sick all over her bed at 10pm, we went quickly to the front desk of the hotel to get a fresh duvet as in our 2 bed apartment there was not one spare duvet or blanket. The lady said I can't help you until tomorrow 9am until house keeping gets here! She gave us a fresh bed sheet that she reluctantly found. She didn't really want to help. It was an absolute joke. There is no way this is a 5 star hotel, the rooms are ok but this is max 3 star and the service and quality of the resort is really poor as it claims to be 5 star and the most romantic resort in europe!!!??? I would love to know who voted for this. Carvoeiro is great, the local restaurants are great (we tried loads as we ate out everyday). The hotel was a complete and utter let down. This hotel needs to go through a renovation, staff training and up the level of service.

The most perfect relaxing holiday money can buy

Apr 2022 | YorkshireRule

We absolutely love this place, everything about it is so relaxing and just right. The villas and apartments are immaculate, the pools spacious and clean, the restaurant has lovely food and the bar has a good choice of drinks. The location is spot on, about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the town centre or a 3 minute drive, a taxi is around 4 Euros. The development is well designed and spaced out, meaning a quiet and relaxing break. The staff are helpful and polite. The outdoor pool is cool out of summer but I’ve swam in it in March and April and it’s fine, the indoor pool is also available and is heated. Plenty of free parking throughout the development and 24/7 secure access. I honestly cannot fault this place at all and will be returning for a 5th visit soon.
