An Oasis outside Marrakesh........
I TOTALLY agree with the review written by Elle from Chichester who also visited this month (I don't think she was there at the same time as us). The hotel buildings are set in amazing gardens, 7kms out of the centre of Marrakesh. Once you leave the hotel grounds you can not walk to any restaurants/bars, instead you need to use the shuttle bus or taxi. Hiring a car is only for the very brave!! The staff were all very polite and helpful especially the cleaning ladies who worked tirelessly to keep the hotel clean. The food was a huge disppointment - very limited choice and not well cooked. We couldn't face any more meals after a few days so dined at a French restaurant; The Petit Cornichon in Gueliz, two evenings in a row! Amazing food and much cheaper than in UK! We did enjoy our stay at Maison Des Oliviers but felt it was let down by the food.
Stunning Hotel Riad - just needs to improve facilities
Stunning grounds and beautifully maintained. However, the area surrounding the hotel is not so good, very run down & desolate. My family and I stayed ten days. The rooms are a good size and showers exceptionally good. No kettle in the room though was dissapointing! We wanted somewhere away from the Medina where we could relax. It was certainly very quiet and peaceful and an air of opulance, which was charming. On hind site though we would have prefered to be nearer the action as getting a taxi although fairly easy was a bind and at night some were expensive. The hotel will provide transport at a cost, we mostly flaged a taxi from the main road as it was less expensive (cost less than half the price) and there are many. Breakfast was disappointing with limited choice and no flair, we went out instead on a number of occasions. Here is my our opinion of the good and the bad: 1. Hotel looks fabulous, with well kept grounds and traditional Marrocan style. 2. The pool area was beautiful. However, even though it was 30+ degrees all week, the pool was absolutely freezing! This was a real shock and spoilt the holiday for me as it was just far too cold to swim in. it was exceptionally cold not just because it was hot in the sun and thus felt colder than it actually was, no the temperture was freezing. Guests (not just me and my family) felt the same, very few were brave enough to have a 'quick dip'. A real shame as it looks so inviting. There were plenty of loungers and clean towels, although I did snag my new top on the back of a broken lounger by the pool (other loungers seemed fine). 3. The pool side bar and restaurant were okay, however it only served food 12 noon - 3pm each day so very limiting and again quality is at best very average/poor. 4. The housekeepers are by far the best you could wish for. They were outstanding in every way. Attention to detail, friendly and very efficient. Five Stars :-) 5. We had treatments at the spar. It lacked atmosphere and we were not offered any mint tea or refreshments at all. The treatments were okay but nothing special at all and we were overcharge when we checked our bill at home so probably better to pay as you go. 6. The restaurant is okay but far better option is to eat out. The bar closes early too. There is a pizza takaway if you turn left out of the hotel and across the road, after a few roads turn right. Only about 5 mins, although not amazing my grown up children (in their early 20s) liked it and the cost is very low. Also a convenience store just towards the main road, large bottles of water are only a few pence rather than a few pound at the hotel and can be stored in the room fridge. There were a few power cuts during our stay so take a torch with you as it is very dark if it occurs at night which it did twice during our stay. Overall the hotel and staff are helpful and the grounds beautiful. I personally would not stay there again as the location does not suit me and some of the facilities in our opinion need improving, although I do not wish to put others off, knowing what to expect is helpful and you could do far worse than staying at this beautiful hotel riad.
Marvelous, peaceful, hotel!
Such a beautiful hotel with traditional decor, wonderful, happy staff, and fantastic food! The most delicious all inclusive I have ever had with plenty of choice and big portions! We had a private pool which was lovely (too cold to swim in Feb). The main pool and outdoor bar/restaurant is beautiful. Spa is very relaxing and clean (No gym). Easy taxi service to/from marrakesh with friendly service. Hotel arranged our Eureka Valley excursion and we saw 4/7 waterfalls (with a 7year old, more climbing to see the rest). Very picturesque and a humerous driver! (Had to pay a guide extra to take us up the mountain but you can go by yourself). Very clean room, gorgeous bathroom and lovely cleaning ladies. Thank you to everyone at the hotel, you made our holiday special and memorable!
