Quiet oasis for a stay in the old city

Riad Fatouma is conveniently located in a quiet part of the old city, but within easy walking distance of the main square and key tourist attractions. The Clock Café is very close and serves excellent food at a good price. We found our room to be clean and, although basic, has all you need for a short stay. If you are considering excursions Mohammed, the host, is best to buy through as you get a fair price and he will organise collections etc., we found that tourists who had purchased through other agencies paid more and were given confusing pick up instructions. For an authentic experience of the old city of Marrakech we would recommend.

It's Not All That

I choose here because I like to stay just outside the centre of town and decided on a riad for something a little more authentic. Firstly, I'd suggest getting a taxi to it if you've just arrived at the airport. It's off the beaten track with no obvious sign to tell you where it is. The riad is very different to a hotel with rooms directly off the area where you have breakfast & can socialise. The sound travels clearly so be careful with your conversations. Our room was basic with two single beds slid together and a double sheet thrown over. The beds were pretty poor. Both single mattresses sank considerably in the middle. I've added a photo here to show the dip. The bathroom was also basic and not especially clean, with mold on the wall at the shower. Again another photo to show this. The staff were really helpful and I can't fault them. I don't mind slumming it and have stayed in some interesting places, but Riad Fatouma is disappointing. It does not match what it promises on any of the websites you find it on. It is basic, lacking in any comfort and a bit unclean. I'm sure there are better & cleaner places to stay that can offer the authenticity people want.

Amazing Host !!!

The hotel wasn’t great itself, we got there and it was fully booked and apparently we only had the option of staying in a room upstairs which didn’t have much conditions or go to another hotel of the same owner . It was quite late when we got there and We straight away got along with the Host Mohammed, such a nice and funny person so we decided to stay there . We loved meeting Mohammed, had so much fun with him and he was always ready to help no matter what! Thank you so much Mohammed ! Petra And Vania
