Bumpy checkin, wonderful week

We spent a week at this resort and loved it. The staff is awesome, food in the restaurants surprisingly good, and we felt very safe the entire time. Checkin was our only bump. Our checkin was a little rocky. We booked an Oceanfront Fiesta Club room. The front desk clerk (possibly a trainee?) told us that our assigned room was ocean view, the hotel was full ?, and they could not accommodate us with an Oceanfront room. We asked if we could change in the morning. First check out the room and see if we like it, she advised. It was after 5pm, the latest that guests can make dinner reservations. The consierge was able to get us a late reservation. We appreciated that. After dinner we stopped at the front desk and talked to a second, clearly more experienced clerk who quickly found an alternate room to accommodate our room change request. She said we could move that evening if desired, or in the morning. Our choice. We opted for the morning. In the morning we stopped at the desk to switch keys and who did we get as a clerk??? The less accommodating first clerk. She insisted that we could not switch rooms until 3pm, despite the fact that room#2 was vacant. Luckily another clerk intervened and the switch was made. The new room was just what we expected (and paid for). The first clerk seemed unnecessarily contrarian. Perhaps she was new and confused on procedure, but it was not a great start. Luckily things got better (and stayed better) quickly. Dinner reservations need to be made daily at the towel hut. The towel hut opens around 8am and it’s probably best to reserve as early as you can. We had the Fiesta Club green wristbands and could also book a reservation for an adjunct to the Italian restaurant on the pool island . It was a lovely romantic evening with piano music and great waitstaff. All the restaurants were very good. There is a Mexican Fiesta in the banquet room on Friday evenings. There is an extensive buffet supper followed by traditional Mexican dancing and music performances. Excellent. We typically do excursions and explore the local towns while on vacation, but this time we mainly stuck to the resort. The beach area was ever so relaxing. Cabanas under palm trees provided plenty of shade and the weather was perfect. No need to leave the resort. There are beach vendors that approach, but they are not intrusive or aggressive. The Club Fiesta upgrade was worthwhile. It affords the following features: 1. Seating on the outside beachfront Veranda at the breakfast buffet. 2. Use of the Sonne Club adults only pool, bar and lunch. We did not use this area as we prefer the beach and enjoy children around, but it is pretty well appointed. We had lunch here once but went back to the beach. Sorta stuffy for us. 3. Ninth floor cocktail and appetizers area from 5-9pm 4.Room on floor 7-9 5.Ability to book the Italian restaurant’s pool island for dinner. The resort was impeccably clean. It’s greatest strength is it’s friendly, engaging staff. Some random tips: 1. We were on the 8th floor. There are 2 banks of elevators from the lobby, but only one side goes to 8. And….that elevator doesn’t go to 9 (cocktail area). You had to go down to the lobby and use the other elevators to go up to 9. We used the stairs. Perplexing and no one explained at checkin. 2. Gym is very nice and well appointed with quality equipment. Hand weights start at 7.5 lbs. which were too heavy for me (in rehab), but I could use cardio equipment. Gym was only busy on Saturday. All in all, an excellent vacation. We will be back.

Easy resort location from airport to downtown Puerto Vallarta with excellent beachfront ! The resort is very clean, well staffed and the dining options offer something for everyone. We enjoyed the free roaming peacocks and the beautiful landscaped garden areas. The friendly hospitality of the staff made the trip an A+ Staff that really shined: Breakfast - Gume, Antonia Gutierrez, Alejandro Pool /Sand: Ignacio “Nacho” Dinner: Jose Vera, Alonso, Edgar Martinez, Dulce Pottery painting: Patricia & her husband
