The hotel’s Star Camp programme splits activities and entertainment for children into three age groups. Dressel Divers, owned by the hotel, offers scuba diving lessons for all levels of abilities. Then, if you’re feeling brave, join an excursion to Cozumel’s coral reefs, where you’ll be joined by bull and whale sharks. For the slightly less adventurous, there’s also parasailing, jet skiing, kayaking, windsurfing and banana boating.

Antiguo Laguito Buffet is open for all meals, serving international and Mexican cuisine, with themed and gala evenings. Lunch and dinner are also on offer at El Maguey Mexican. Here, choose your favourite taco or try a new seafood. Options include red snapper, shrimp and hogfish. The hotel prides itself on only serving fish which has been sustainably caught.

Four further a la carte restaurants open in the evening. There is no additional charge for dining at any of them, so reserve a table at the one which takes your fancy. Trattoria La Horma dishes up Italian favourites such as beef carpaccio, spaghetti alla carbonara, tiramisu and panna cotta. There’s also a special menu for kids who love pizza and fish fingers. Sushi lovers won’t want to miss out on the opportunity to eat at Teppanyaki Naga Hibachi. The Steak House isn’t just for meat lovers, they do fish and vegan dishes too. The selection is completed with American Bistro serving popular meals including burgers, beef ribs, mac & cheese and Kentucky style chicken.

For a refreshing beverage or light bite there are a total of seven bars to suit the needs and desires of different guests. Pool and beach side options are available, while Starcafe offers delicious pastries and coffee 24 hours a day. In the evening watch the match at the sports bar, or have a relaxing drink in the lobby while your ears are treated to the live music performances. There’s nightly entertainment at Teatro which you can enjoy while devouring a cocktail or juice.

Iberostar Selection Cancun offers a wide range of room types. As standard there’s air-conditioning, WiFi, a coffee maker, a TV and DVD player, a hairdryer, an iron, a minibar, bathrobes and a safe. Each option can accommodate two guests in a king sized bed, or up to four in double or queen sized beds. Upgrades allow you to benefit from a panoramic view of the Caribbean, beach or garden, plus your own balcony or terrace. Suites also offer guests their own private whirlpool.

If you get too much of the warm Caribbean sun, you can always head to the nearby Museo Maya de Cancún, giving you the opportunity to view engaging exhibits on Mayan history and art. San Miguelito Archeological Site gives you the chance to view remains from this period, with shaded trails to guide you around. Further examples, including a pyramid shaped temple dating from 250AD, are just down the road at El Rey Archaeological Zone. Venturing out a bit further takes you from the peace and quiet of the resort, to the hustle and bustle of central Cancun.
