When you're picking up your suncream from your local supermarket before you go, you’ll often find a currency exchange desk selling Euros. Or, if you’ve bagged yourself a last-minute getaway, order online and it will be delivered straight to your door within days.

Don’t worry if you’ve run out of time or cash, the airport is also a handy place to change your money. At Malta International Airport you’ll find an HSBC bank just to the left of baggage collection.

When you’re in Valletta there are ATM machines where you can take money out  in Euros, or you can visit a nearby bank. Fexserv (towards the lower end of Republic Street) and W&J Coppini & Co both allow you to change money over.

Visa debit cards are also widely accepted in most restaurants and shops, as well as Mastercards and American Express. To ensure you don’t get charged extras for using your card abroad or have your card stopped for unusual activity, it’s a good idea to contact your bank before you travel
