Elegance Under the Bridge
What an absolutely lovely experience docking our very intimate and indulgent water taxi (serviced by motoscafivenezia) at the entrance to Hotel Rialto. Via email exchange prior to our trip to Venice, the hotel made two recommendations for water transport from Marco Polo Airport which in hindsight, I so appreciate. Who’d have thought we would get our bags, stand on a 10 min moving sidewalk, and find ourselves at a pier waiting for our “taxi.” HIGHLY RECOMMEND spending the $ for this if you’ve never done it. We felt like movie stars!! Just a few steps from the famous Rialto Bridge, our concierge checked us in and out bags were taken to our room at the end of several long, narrow and winding hallways. The walls were covered in a gold and turquoise fabric with a soft fleur-de-lis pattern and the twin beds (a la Goldilocks and the Three Bears) were made up with elegant blue and gold patterned blankets to accommodate my husband and 22 yo son. Room was clean quiet and kept impeccably neat. We stayed two nights, were extremely comfortable, and very surprised to enjoy a FULL breakfast inclusive of everything anyone could want— pastries were scrumptious and fresh, coffee was plentiful, and staff was more than accommodating. While we’d made reservations at Rivera Ristorante (excellent,) for our first night, the hotel staff recommended Trattoria Al Gazzettino for our second night, also delicious, but not as quiet. Lunch was on the water at Laguna Mare. I wish we’d taken pictures of our hotel and our room! We would absolutely stay there again— walked everywhere, toured Doge’s Palace and St. Marks Cathedral and the Jewish Ghetto, and wish we’d have had the chance to visit Murano (a day trip that the hotel arranges.)
Excellent location
Depending on the time of year you choose to travel, the Hotel Rialto is in the perfect location. Located beside the Rialto Bridge, you are straight away in the heart of this famous area. There are vaporetti stops very nearby and the Alilaguna boat from Marco Polo airport drops you off more or less outside the hotel. I travelled in January when it was relatively quiet. I can imagine when the hordes of tourists descend in later months that the area around the bridge and hotel can become rammed and noisy. This is conjecture, however. It’s a nice hotel without being spectacular. There are areas which could do with a paint brush and a bit of renovation. A minor, picky issue really. The water pressure is good for the shower. The bedroom safe is very small in size (a laptop wouldn’t fit in). If you are lucky enough to have a room facing the Rialto Bridge, expect noise. Even very early in the morning, deliveries are taking place and the lovely Italians are not know for being quiet. Your sleep may be affected ! Breakfast is basic - coffee, cake, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, egg, bread - all very adequate. The staff are nice. Big shout out to the lovely blonde waitress who serves breakfast. She was more than happy and patient to help me try out my Italian. I would recommend the Hotel Rialto. Just be aware of the noise factor. Grazie mille Venezia.
Unhelpful
I have repeatedly emailed the Hotel to extend my stay for the Summer and all three of my emails have gone unanswered. I'm worried that if they can't extend a stay, what will the experience of staying really be like? I wish there was an easier way to get in touch with them.
