Visited with my wife for three nights. Checked in at noon and the room was ready. Unfortunately we were given room 1 which was right next to the dining area and we feared it would be noisy. A quick trip to reception and they moved us immediately to a room on the second floor (room 2007). This was perfect. Traditionally decorated bedroom, decent size with a very nice modern bathroom that was spotless. Room had safe and mini bar fridge which we used to keep some bottles of water in. Breakfast was not brilliant, but adequate and was included in our rate. Service was however very good at breakfast. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel put on a boat trip for 35 euro per person which we took. It was done in a water taxi with a total of 8 people and was in our opinion very good value. We were in the boat for about 70 minutes. Location of the hotel is very good, minutes walk from St Marks and about 10 minutes to Rialto. We walked to the hotel from the bus terminal when we arrived and departed and it took about 35 mins. Was a nice leisurely walk. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Excellent Hotel in the Heart of Venice

My wife and I stayed at the Palazzo San Lorenzo in May 2022 for a long weekend in Venice. The hotel is a short walk from San Marco San Zaccaria pier (which is where the vaporetto water bus will bring you in). Picking a hotel close to a pier is important as you will have to walk with suitcases from the boat to your hotel. There are no huge signs outside to let you know it's a hotel, just a small plaque by the door. Any of the staff outside the nearby restaurants will point it out to you though. Once inside, the small reception area is elegant and the helpful front desk staff will get you checked in as quickly as possible. We were three hours early for check in, but the hotel did all the paperwork and stored our luggage so we could go out and explore to kill time until the room was ready. There are a number of restaurants within a stone's throw of the hotel, but check the TripAdvisor reviews as some aren't highly rated. The hotel will also recommend restaurants in the locality. We took a walk to Wine Bar 5000, which is round the back of the hotel, and enjoyed a drink and some chichetta (Italian tapas) by the canal, without the extortionate prices charged in other areas. When we returned to the hotel, we were allocated room number 1 which we were initially unimpressed with. It is right beside the breakfast room and its windows look out onto a fairly busy alleyway that runs down the side of the hotel. We like to sleep with windows open and the noise from passers by was unacceptable. At the time, the aircon had just stopped working too. We also expected to be woken early by breakfast being prepared in advance of the 7.30am service. The hotel offered to move us, but another standard room wasn't available until the next day. As it turned out, the aircon was fixed within a couple of hours so we were able to sleep with windows closed and some ventilation from the system. We were also amazed to find the room incredibly well soundproofed so that our concern about noise from the breakfast room was unfounded - we didn't hear a thing until we woke naturally and even then we could hardly hear a thing. So if you end up in Room 1, don't worry about noise as it's absolutely fine. The rooms are a fabulous mix of old and new, with antique furniture but modern trappings like marble flooring and a marble and glass bathroom. There's even a USB charging socket beside the bed. Wardrobe space is huge and has a safe for valuables, although not enough hangers (I've never been to hotel that does have enough hangers though!). There's also a pod coffee machine for making in-room coffee although pods seem to be allocated at one per guest per day - I'm sure reception would offer more if you ask though. Breakfast is a self service affair with a really good selection of continental pastries, bread, cheese, salads etc. plus pancakes and cakes and even an Italian 'Full English' with bacon, scrambled egg and sausages if you want to give it a go. There was a small gluten free selection too. The only minor downside was the coffee wasn't great at breakfast, but you can always get a great cup when you're out and about so no big deal. The hotel can arrange for things like gondola rides if you wish (there seems to be a Venice standard price of €80 for 30 mins), with the bonus of getting the price to €70 for 30 mins in the mornings or €80 for 40 minutes early evening. They also offered lagoon boat tours at reasonable prices too. The best option we found though is the free one-way boat ride to Murano. They drop you at a glass factory where you can watch a demonstration and browse their (extremely expensive) wares before exploring the island. There was no pressure to buy and the tour was enjoyable. From there you are free to make your own way back (€7.50 pp via vaporetto). Murano wasn't particularly inspiring, but Burano was extremely picturesque and a lovely atmosphere. On check out day we were leaving before breakfast started but the hotel packed us up a breakfast bag to take with us so we wouldn't go hungry. A lovely touch that was very much appreciated. Finally a note about the staff. Everyone we encountered was polite, professional and extremely helpful and all worked hard to ensure we had an enjoyable and memorable stay. If I was coming back to Venice I wouldn't hesitate to book this hotel again as I don't think you could go wrong.

Lovely boutique hotel centrally located

Hotel lovely and room and breakfast were great. We asked for a room change after 1 night as the initial one (room 1) was on the ground floor without much natural light. It was also right next to the dining area. Alternative room on an upper floor was much better. Staff were very helpful and only too happy to advise on restaurants, transport, places to visit, etc. Buffet breakfast was a good choice of hot and cold food. Hotel location was perfect, and close enough, but not too close to St. Mark’s square. Plenty of nice cafes and restaurants within a short walk. Very enjoyable week.
