A beautiful bolt hole on the Sorrentine Peninsula
We had some problems entering our room but these were quickly resolved with a smile. I was travelling alone with my 10 year old daughter and we felt safe and welcome at all times. The property is pristinely clean, the reception staff is keen to assist with advice and excursions and extra little touches. The rooms are generously proportioned. The outdoor pool is well maintained and the sea club deck spotless. The bar staff go out of their way to make you welcome. Stunning views, friendly local town if one makes an effort. Our only issues were other discourteous guests..
A beautiful, luxurious hotel with fabulous staff and panoramic Views .. highly recommended
We have just returned from the most loveliest holiday staying at this fabulous hotel. The staff could not do enough for us and at all times the service was excellent. Everyone played their part in making our stay as comfortable as possible, special mention to Mario the barman who remembered our favourite drinks every night and the waiters in the restaurant, the cleaners with their cheerful friendly professional manner and the helpful reception staff who gave us good advice from Everything down to what time the local shops shut for the afternoon. We wanted to visit the private beach but didn’t realise it was the last day of the season and we were the only ones going but they opened it up Especially for us, drive us there and even brought down lunch for us with a lovely bottle of wine. When we were ready we were driven back. We highly recommend paying to have the sea view as it so worth it and takes sipping drinks on your patio To a new level! The town of Vico Equense is very close by and is filled with lots of choices of bars and restaurants and shops. The train station is also a short walk and is ideal to visit places like Pompeii and the town of sorrento. We have already booked to return next May and we cannot wait!!
Hotel Mary Review (see other reviews for Sorrento area reviews and tips)
This review concerns our stay at Hotel Mary in October 2022 with some additional reference to a 12-day Ledger Luxuria trip. As part of the trip, we had a six-night stay at Hotel Mary. This was our first trip to the region. The hotel is clean crisp and modern with panoramic vistas from the restaurant and pool terraces overlooking the bay - you will not be disappointed with these views! The bar is well stocked, and the bar staff are both engaging, smart and pleasant. I did not try the a la carte menu as we had hotel dinners included in our package. The restaurant service was good and the choice of set meals (which we were presented with each morning) was agreeable with some local specialities such as (I think they are called!) Strozzapreti and zitti (pastas). Not everyone in our group shared my view but I will leave that up to them to present their own reviews. The hotel in practical terms is around 12 to 15minutes walk to vico town centre. The first time we walked up to town was a bit of an experience along a busy road with very narrow footpaths in some places. Scooters flying past and cars hooting! that said second time round we got more used to it. The town is vibrant particularly after 5pm with a range of shops and some bars and restaurants. We had an inland room which was very nicely appointed but disappointingly overlooked the busy road - we were told on requesting to change our room that Ledger are only allocated standard rooms and therefore no other rooms were available with sea views. Other down sides to being Ledger Passengers is that WiFi is not included and the cost for WiFi is an additional e5.00 euros per day per device. Half the cost of cocktail - which looks a bit stingy on the tour operators part if I am honest. Again, being a Ledger guest does not include membership to the beach club situated in the small harbour below the hotel - that is an extra e15.00 euros per head as I understand and as you are not a beach club member you are not entitled to the e2.00 euro per head courtesy van ride down to the harbour? You can as a Hotel Guest still use the courtesy bus to the harbour, but the cost per head is higher. There are around 290 steps down to the harbour which is fine if you are used to walking. Saying that as a Ledger guest you are able to enjoy the stunning pool terrace (although there seemed to be a mix up as to whether pool towels were available or not to Ledger passengers - some travellers had to resort to reception intervention to sort this out). Cocktails are around 10.00 euros on average, and we had the house White Wine which was pretty decent and costs 6.00euros per glass (a bottle is around 18.00euros). Cokes were around 4.00 euros per bottle and tea and coffee is available on payment throughout the day from the bar. The Room has a fridge (for which you pay a 5.00 euro surcharge to have stocked then each item is billed separately on use). There is a nice SPA offering a range of treatments if you want a special treat while in the resort. The access from the street is quite good with one step up to get onto the footway, internally the bar, reception, restaurant and terraces are all level with a small threshold to the terrace, there is also an accessible WC at the reception level making this a comfortable hotel if you are not too good with stairs, The lift accesses most floors I went to and also the pool deck with no intermediate steps. I believe there is one disabled facilities room (with support bars etc) and some rooms have low access showers while some have shower over bath arrangements. There was ample hot water for showers with both handheld and overhead rain shower. The room also has a safe which was not working in our room on arrival (I gave up on this) and the Air Con was a bit temperamental till a staff member sorted the controls out.
