VOI Colonna Village Hotel – 4*?
Booked with Jet2 on 16 August for departure on 10 September 2022 as an all inclusive holiday. Paid full fare on booking. Shortly after this we were informed that the room had been downgraded to a 3* but the facilities remained the same. The reception is sparse & scruffy. On arrival had to pay the tourist tax of €70 which was expected. Not expected were deposits of €20 per beach towel, €10 for the lock to the smallest safe you have ever seen and €10 for a kettle. All refundable on return of the goods. To change a beach towel there was a charge of €2 per towel – not refundable. The hotel is cashless, and any additional items can be paid by card, or you can load money onto a VOI card. I load €20 onto this card. The room we were in was furnished in Italian style, bed (comfortable), wardrobe, bedside cabinet & chest of drawers with a fridge. The room was very tired. The artwork is dated 1998 and the curtains and bedspread probably date from then also. The en-suite bathroom had a sink (as normal in some hotels the plug did not work), shower, toilet and bidet. The shower was dirty around the base inside & out and the toilet had brown staining around its base. The supply/tidy of towels in the bathroom was a lottery as to what would be missing, seldom did we get a full set, and often the bathmat would be missing and one bath towel to share. There was a nice sea view. The restaurant was always chaotic but the food was varied and to a good standard, however the service was mixed. The plastic spoons melted in hot tea. All-inclusive drinks are served in plastic glasses in the main bar. If you pay for a drink you get it in a glass. Beer is served in a small plastic cup, and on seeing larger plastic cups, I asked if I could have one of those for my beer. I was told I couldn’t, so asked for 2 small cups which were forthcoming and not a problem. The larger plastic cups are reserved for spirits and mixers and if you want wine it’s served in a prosecco glass. Certainly treated as a second-class customer on an all-inclusive basis. Again, service was mixed. There is a second bar at the beach hotel where you are served any alcohol in glasses, but that closed at 6pm and is far more civilized than the main bar. On arrival we were told about the VOI card and assured that any charges made onto the card that shouldn’t have been would be refunded. I loaded €20 onto the VOI card to pay for some incidentals. I was charged €3.50 in the restaurant and €10 in the bar for beer that I shouldn’t have been. On leaving the resort I tried to get this money back, but it was a battle and as a matter of principle. I successfully recovered the €10 but lost the will to live with the €3.50. The hotel is built on the side of a hill leading down to a very nice beach. There are many steps and I would suggest not suitable for anybody that is less able. A large golf buggy does a circuit of the resort on a regular basis. The entertainment is aimed solely at the Italian guests. The children’s entertainment starts at 9.15pm for 30 minutes and then the adult entertainment commences until about 10.30pm. I must say the Italians enjoyed it, but that enjoyment was not shared. The beach is lovely and the plentiful sun beds comfortable if a little too close to one-another. The hotel is in a remote location and taxis are hard to come by. It is €40 each way to Olbia, and we were told it was a similar price to visit Golfo Aranci. There is a bus that stops outside the hotel that goes one way, once a day. We booked a boat trip through Jet2’s customer helper to Maddalena and the surrounding islands. The cost was €107 each. The transfer, a large part of the cost was about 45 minutes to Baja. The boat had about 6 tables on each side on the open deck with benches either side of the table. Each bench seat 4 people and you were sat knee to knee with whoever was facing you. It was rammed. Albeit the scenery was nice with a stop at two islands where there are no facilities or shops etc. We particularly wanted to visit the shops in Maddalena but by the time we landed it was siesta and the shops shut. A small bowl of pasta was in the price, anything else there was a charge. People who booked through the hotel for a similar price stopped at Maddalena first and with lunch had pasta bread, cheese, melon & wine included. We spoke with Jet2’s customer helper, Cherry, and raised the issues of the plastic glasses. She said that she had spoken to the hotel management a number of times but they would not change. There was no indication from her of any strategic intervention by Jet2 management on this issue. The hotel is on a terrific site and with investment would be very good. No way is it a 4* hotel and we have stopped in better 2* hotels. The reception boasts a certificate about sustainability, the amount of paper used in the restaurant as place mats and plastics used throughout the resort is phenomenal. This was our first package holiday booked with Jet2 and to say we were disappointed is an understatement.
Excellent Hotel
I’ve just spent an unforgettable vacation time with my family in September 2022 at VOI Colonna Village. In retrospect, I would like to praise the clean swimming pools, well-groomed hotel’s flora, beautiful views, well-organized beach, always clean room, and a wide selection of dishes during meals.
An enjoyable experience but a bit pricey
I enjoyed my recent visit to the Voi colonna village in Sardinia. Located in the north east of the island it’s around 25 minutes from the airport. The complex is quite large and has a hotel as well as apartment blocks on site.At check-in you are given a map of the complex and its explained where you have to go. Its a bit of a challenge to find your apartment for the first time particularly if you arrive in the dark like myself. It would be better to be shown to your room the first time you are there. I was in an apartment classed as a premium room and discovered you don’t get full access to the hotel, some restaurants are off limits to superior and deluxe guests only. I didn’t ask if i could be upgraded as i was keen to skip lunch on a few days. The room was ver spacious and had bunk beds as well as a double bed consisting of two single beds connected together. They could do with being a bit longer. I had two small issues in the room a flusher and tv not working, these were dealt with by reception and maintenance very quickly. There was a nice bar next to the beautiful large swimming pool in the campus. Alcoholic drinks were a little expensive at 10 euros so i would advise to go all inclusive if you want to drink. If you can cope on soft drinks and coffee half board is reasonable i spent around 100 euros for the week on three lunches and 2-3 drinks a day. Lunches are really nice at the belllvue bar that overviews the beach and sea spectacular view. Only problem was it closed half way through my week. This brings me on to my most major issues which was the experience i feel would have been better in season. Some things were closed as it was coming to end of season and facilities and entertainment were not a full schedule. I get why this happens but felt the price paid was a little expensive for not the full experience. The beach on site is a big bonus to the hotel and you can go for some nice walks however you are not really near anything and if you don’t like walking this place isn’t probably for you. The uphill walk back from the hotel is a bit of a mission. You can get a shuttle cart but didn’t quite understand when and where to pick this up from all seemed a bit random to me. Overall i would say this 4 star probably is justified when its in its full flow but is more like a three when not in season. I can understand some of the comments from other reviewers however some i feel are a bit harsh. Particularly on staff who I felt tried there best most of the time are maybe not all confident with there English rather than not wanting to talk to you. If the team at Voi read this i hope they take on board some of the comments and thank you for my much needed holiday
