As the world’s first floating yacht hotel, Sunborn Gibraltar provides a unique experience. The range of facilities on-board include restaurants, bars, a spa, a fitness suite. And if that wasn’t enough there’s even a casino. It floats adjacent to the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, where barbary apes roam and British red phone boxes sit under the strong Mediterranean sun.
The menu at the Barbary Restaurant combines Mediterranean, North African and British flavours. So whether you want to stick to the home comfort of beer battered fish and chips or sample the vegetable tagine with couscous, there’s something for you. La Sala Bar & Restaurant provides more than just a second option for eating, as they offer al fresco lunches and romantic candlelit dinners. The Aqua Bar provides the ideal place for a digestif while watching the sunset over the Gibraltar Straits.
The spa provides a tranquil escape from the world outside. Here you can book a wide range of massages and treatments. There’s also a fully equipped fitness suite where exercise classes and yoga sessions are on offer. If you’d like a tailored workout, you can request a personal trainer to engage, inspire and motivate you.
The casino is open from 10pm to 2am Wednesday to Saturday. It boasts jackpot machines, pinball roulette, sports betting terminals, blackjack and poker. If being in a casino makes you feel a bit like James Bond, then why not order a vodka martini to enhance the experience?
The air-conditioned rooms are equipped with WiFi, heating, a TV and radio, a minibar, a hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers. There’s also 24 hour room service and if you’re feeling lazy, you can have your breakfast in bed. Upgrade options include deluxe and superior options with your own personal balcony. While suites additionally boast a separate living area with a comfy sofa.
Going to the top of the rock is a must-do when visiting Gibraltar. Many people choose to take the cable car up and to walk back down, so they don’t miss the points of interest that are part way up. Preventing apes from stealing your refreshing ice cream isn’t the only activity to partake in on the rock. There are also caves and the great siege tunnels to explore. Back down at the bottom, dolphin cruises are a possibility.
Sunborn Gibraltar is just over 1km from the Spanish border. Adjacent to this is the local bus station where services operate to the chic, sun-drenched town of Marbella, the white village of San Roque and the port of Algeciras. A popular excursion from Gibraltar is Ronda - high up in the mountains with its breathtaking gorge, it’s one of Spain’s most instagrammable destinations. If you want to visit three countries during your stay, you can even take a full day trip to Tangier in Morocco.
