Qatar - currency

It’s important to be aware of the currency of the country you’re visiting before you go. Qatar’s official currency is the Qatari Riyal or QAR.

While you’ll find ATMs in the larger cities of Qatar, like Doha, it is always best to carry some cash. Especially if you’re looking to experience the authentic side of Qatar, carry some smaller Qatari Riyal notes and coins with you and try haggling at the markets. The banknotes in use in Qatar are 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 200 and 500 QAR. Qatari coins range from 1 dirham (0.01 QAR) to 50 dirhams (0.50 QAR), with 100 dirhams in 1 riyal.

The markets are great places to pick up some traditional spices, clothes and argan oil and exotic street food.
