Dunas de Sal

Dunas de Sal is within walking distance of Santa Maria Beach in Cape Verde, an island chain in the Atlantic Ocean of the west coast of Africa. It's known for its mountains, beaches and peaceful seaside villages. Cape Verde's landscapes, exotic wildlife and year-round sunshine have earned it a reputation as Africa's answer to the Caribbean. Dunas de Sal is mainly adults-focused, although children are welcome here too. At Dunas de Sal, you'll find a spa which offers a range of pampering treatments and a gym. You could also attend a yoga class. The hotel is also home to a diving centre for those looking to learn something new on their holiday. You can opt to try diving in the hotel's pool first before heading down to the beach. Evening entertainment, including live music, is on every week. There's also an outdoor pool which has a bar. The sandy beach is steps away. Dunas de Sal has a restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a mixture of both local and internationally inspired dishes. The outdoor pool bar serves lighter snacks throughout the day. The hotel was renovated in late 2017 with all guest rooms and the restaurant, spa and gym being updated.

Dunas de Sal is 1.2km from the centre of Santa Maria. The town is known for its distinctive pastel buildings and it has a wide range of restaurants and bars. You can snorkel in the clear waters here to try to spot turtles and other marine life. You can travel further afield on the island of Sal to find a range of attractions. You can try to spot sharks at Shark Bay, or visit the Pedra de Lume salt mine, where you can float in a natural salt lake. Head to one of the many beach clubs to enjoy food and music.

Dunas de Sal's restaurant serves three-course dinners from a menu that changes every day. Breakfast is available as a buffet. You can also enjoy a soft or alcoholic drink at the hotel's pool bar.

To keep active on your holiday, head to the gym at the Dunas de Sal. You can keep up your fitness routine with a range of equipment.

Nice pool area with one pool. The pool is divided into a deeper and a shallower part (40 cm deep).

At Dunas de Sal, each room has air conditioning, satellite TV, a safe and a minibar. Baby cots are available.

Good Basic Hotel

Jan 2022 | Hrodgard N

This was my third time staying in this hotel and the experience has been similar to my previous visits. The rooms are basic but clean and decently maintained. Aircon works perfect. Wardrobe  could do with a few more hangers, 6 isn't enough. Hot or even warm water in the bathroom is still an issue, I had to go to the reception several times and ask them to turn on the extra heater for the water. I made the mistake of paying a supplement for a superior room, which is a waste of money. Apart from the family rooms all the rooms are the exact same, my room just had a closed off balcony, which really isn't worth the 500€ I paid extra for 2 weeks. The restaurant still serves a great breakfast, with a lot of variation every day. There are snacks available the whole day. Due to bad experiences with the dinner service the last two times I was here, I never bothered trying the restaurant in the evening again. From what I heard from other guests, it still isn't great. This is still very much a Bed and Breakfast hotel for me. It can't compete with the plethora of great restaurants available in Santa Maria, which is only a 10 min walk away. If I had to address one complaint about the hotel, it would be the service. The staff is very friendly and will always help. But a lot of them barely speak English and some can't even understand what you mean when you point to an item on the menu. This is a management problem, they really need to invest in better training for their staff because they mean well and really try. Overall, I still like this hotel very much
