Lovely short break in PP
My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in July and loved it. Perfect central location and the swimming pool is great with amazing. Views. Our room was nice with large shower and balcony with side sea view. We didn’t experience any problems getting a sunbed in school holidays at all. Would have been nice to play some chilled music by the pool in the day but other than that a perfect holiday location
Unacceptable Stench in Bathroom
Arrived on 23rd July 2022 and initially we were very disappointed with a lunchtime salad which comprised of dried out lettuce , tinned mango and tasteless tomatoes! Day 3 a head waiter didn't understand our request for an iced coffee (black) which I requested in Spanish & English. When I queried it with the server the head waiter came back and said 'What's your problem'! in an aggressive tone , which was intimidating and very unhelpful! It gets worse! Day 2 morning (re room 305) I requested that someone looked into the stench emanating from the shower which was obviously blocked! We didn't notice much of an improvement and no one informed us what was done to repair it and we were not sure anyone did anything, so on Day 3 morning I pointed out the problem again to Reception and fortunately the Manager (Lois) and the maintenance person were there and we looked at it together. He stated that it was definitely the shower after trying to disperse any blockage with the shower hose. On our return in the afternoon it was still smelling badly and I spoke again with the Manager -Lois and stated that it was unacceptable, my wife nearly vomited on more than one occasion whenever she went into the bathroom, and we needed a room change (equivalent to what I paid for, with a sea view) . He informed us that there was no equivalent room available and I stated that he needs to consider some sort of compensation because the first three nights experience was not acceptable. He said he would pop back in the room to see if it was any better after 8pm that evening . On returning late evening we were informed by the receptionist Marta that as a result of some one in a similar room checking out early we could be moved into a similar room the following morning and to check with her at say 8am . After another unacceptable evening in the smelly room we duly saw Marta and she stated that the new room 303 would be ready for us at say 11am. So we hung around so that we could transfer everything into the new room. Even the cleaner stated that the previous room stank! I was therefore surprised that when we came to check out that there was no credit or deduction for the suffering of the first three nights , as requested by me to Luis ? Marta rang him while we were checking out on Sat 30th Aug. and he refused to do anything? I believe even as a gesture of good- will we should have been offered say a bottle of champagne or wine, or a credit towards room based extras bill at the least? More relevantly there definitely ought to have been some significant financial refund for our suffering! The unhelpful behaviour of the Manager unfortunately detracted too from some very pleasant helpful other staff.
Great hotel, very comfortable and great location
We stayed for two weeks at the beginning of May. Our room was very large and comfortable, the bed was firm which we like and is good for hot weather. There was aircon in the room but we didn’t need to use it that early in the year. We were at the front of the hotel but weren’t troubled by noise from the street outside. We enjoyed the food, breakfast was a buffet with a huge array of options. Dinner was from a menu with five choices for each course, plus a bread roll and an hors d’ouevre, ample for even a big appetite, and great value on our half board arrangement. We were amused by a certain amount of flexibility between the menu and reality, for example if the menu said hake you definitely got fish but it wasn’t necessarily hake. We were happy to get the opportunity to try local dishes rather than the burgers and pizzas that dominated in nearby restaurants. The bar area was pleasant with a good range of drinks including cocktails. The drinks menu was available online by scanning a QR code, I’ve not come across this before but think it’s an excellent idea. The pool area was great although we enjoyed a dip in the sea more than the pool. I failed to secure my parasol one day and it ended up in the pool, but the staff fished it out very efficiently. The location on the pine walk is great, it’s only two minutes to the bus station, right by the harbour and about 10 minutes from a nature reserve. So there’s lots to do and look at close by. I’ve never been back to the same hotel twice as I always think there are so many places to go, but we will definitely return to the Daina.
