A wonderful stay
Three friends and I stayed here in September, from the moment we arrived we were greeted with a friendly welcome from all the staff assisting us. Our room was beautiful and clean and we had a stunning view of both the sea and the harbour. Our rooms were cleaned daily, on request they supplied us with a kettle. The shower was huge and the toiletries were very nice We paid for breakfast and wow we were so impressed, so much choice, with fresh omelettes and various other egg orders. We also had a couple of the buffet evenings. Very reasonable price for all you can eat. Again so much choice. The swimming pools were large and warm. Plenty of sun beds and a well stocked pool bar. The hotel is walking distance to the wonderful fishing village and so many lovely restaurants to choose from. We went on the bus a couple of times too, so you don’t need a car to go out and about. We all agreed it was a great place to stay and would go back in a heart beat.
Could be great if everything was available
We arrived at the hotel just before 11.30pm. 2 friends on holiday, I had emailed in advance to see if we could book a twin room - we couldn't, they only had 5 twin rooms, but we could ask on arrival, or upgrade to a mini-suite on arrival. I asked for a twin room - apparently they don't have any. We were offered an upgrade to a mini-suite, the receptionist quoted a lower upgrade price than I had been advised of previously, and was displayed on the counter - she did stick to the price she had quoted, so we agreed to the upgrade. Once checked in, we asked what was still open "the bar shuts at 11.30pm, but they should still serve you and let you take a drink to your room". We approached the bar at 11.37pm and were promptly turned away. Heading up to the room, there was a fridge, but no other facilities. No food or drink available other than an expensive vending machine that we managed to find. The room it's self was good though. Very clean, good size, two balconies, one off the bedroom, one off the lounge area. The room was cleaned every day, we couldn't fault this aspect at all. From our balcony, we could see the restaurant/breakfast area across the road, and one of the pools which looked lovely, looking out over the bay. We headed over for breakfast in the morning. There's a good selection, could possibly do with a little more description of what items are, a cover over the pastries, and additional coffee machines, but good none the less. Of the advertised facilities, only one out of the three pools was open, only two out of the three even had water in. It looked like they gym was open, but the indoor pool area certainly wasn't (this was the one without water), I assume that the jacuzzi was also indoors, it certainly wasn't by the pool that was open. It suggested massages were available, but they appeared to be closed with the indoor pool. It was a real shame as the weather wasn't great every day, so we would have used the indoor facilities. The pool that was open was always clean. The bar was open during the hours advertised, not all the drinks advertised were available - only one bottle of white wine open at a time, limited bottled drinks, very limited ice creams. The hotel bar is only open between 7.30pm and 11.30pm. There was generally one member of staff, who was frequently rushed off his feet. There was no entertainment what so ever (as on the hotel website). We felt they would benefit from opening the bar longer, and definitely from putting some entertainment on as Porto Colom was very, very, very quiet. Not sure if it's like that all the time, but we were there from Monday to Thursday and everywhere seemed to be asleep. It was very relaxing, and the places that were open seemed nice (other than the server at Babbo who claimed not to know what mayonnaise was "I do not understand", but then happily charged us 2 euros for aioli - would not go back). On the whole. Nice hotel, but could do so much better, nice place, but could only spend 4 days as it was so sleepy.
Poor service
We’ve been here 4 times before the pandemic and have loved it every time. Now changed ownership and can honestly say not for the better, Breakfast is very good but evening meal is very poor and unappetising, had better food at a motorway cafe. For heavens sake don’t go to the pool area and try to move an umbrella you’ll get a finger wagging pool attendant stamping his feet and moving it back, made us feel uncomfortable in front of all the other hotel guests, then proceeded to glare at us muttering something in Spanish when I asked what the problem was. Customer service not his forte Could write more but limited to amount of characters Won’t be returning here
