Lovely hotel
I booked this as a treat for my daughters and son in law, we are aged 19, 21, 23 and 45. We were all inclusive, with a superior sea view double and a standard pool view double. We arrived early hours due to a flight change. Our rooms weren’t ready but we were advised we could use the large sofas that were towards to the back of the hotel to have a nap, This was in a nice quiet area and we were left undisturbed, big comfy settees. Not ideal but not the hotels fault and Nikki on reception was very helpful bringing us water etc. By 6am he managed to get one of our rooms ready early. Me and my 19 yo daughter shared a superior sea view room. First thoughts were the absolutely beautiful view across Es Cana beach/bay. The room itself was comfy and clean but I was a bit disappointed when compared to my eldest daughter and son in laws room who had a double pool view, as apart from the view there was very little difference in size and facilities etc. I guess you pay the extra for the view which was very nice. The shower and toilet aren’t separate and you can see when someone’s in the shower, however, sharing with my daughter wasn’t an issue and we would just say ‘don’t look’ if we were getting changed etc. if you want your privacy then I wouldn’t recommend if you’re sharing with someone you’re not particularly close to! But for us it was fine. Lovely shower and nice and clean. The hotel provided Shampoo conditioner and body wash plus hand wash, but I didn’t use these as I bought my own. Despite not really being allowed to check in until 2pm, We were allowed to make use of the all inclusive breakfast, so first impressions were good. The pools are lovely, it was so hot so we spent a lot of time in them. The only thing I’d say is that if you wear anything white, be prepared for it to turn yellow, I had a white bikini which I’ve had to throw away because it had been so discoloured. My daughters bikini and shorts were also ruined and turned from a bright white to a dull yellow. She paid £45 for her bikini top (more fool her) and it’s ruined. The pool doesn’t open until 10 which I think is too late, especially for early risers. I’m not sure why it can’t be opened earlier but guess it for the lifeguard to turn up (adults can’t be trusted maybe!) don’t always expect them to turn up on time though. If you go to reception and pay (refundable) €10, they will give you a card, you can give this to the lifeguard who will give you a clean towel each day or when you need to change it, for the pool for your duration. My advice is that you keep your towel at the end of the day so before breakfast the next day you can get a sun-bed and swap for a clean one when the lifeguard comes on duty. Having said this there was never an issue of getting sun beds. A couple of times we didn’t get to the pool till the afternoon and there were still beds available. All inclusive…I’m not sure I’d go A/I again, not just because of this hotel but you are so restricted, the food here was nice and there was plenty of choice, some things were hit and miss, there was always burgers and pizza and chips, and a range of lovely salads, but some of the dishes such as curry or stew could be a bit hmmm just ‘ok’. I don’t understand how some of the reviews say there wasn’t much choice, because there was loads of choice, you’d have to be very fussy to not find something to eat. The desserts were nice but I always find they are just sweet fluffy nothingness on sponge in varying flavours if that makes sense. Breakfast was okay, you’ve got your usual eggs and beans and mushrooms which always look like they’ve come out of a tin, weird pink sausages and Spanish omelette which I actually really like, of course there is the continental breakfast which is very good and a choice of pastries and fruit, which again was very good. Much choice, again you won’t go hungry. The staff on reception were lovely and were very helpful, most of the staff behind the pool bar were very helpful and friendly, there were a couple that were a bit grumpy, I always try to make a bit of an effort to speak some Spanish when ordering and I’m not sure if it’s appreciated or not but I tried nonetheless. The staff that whizz around the pool area collecting cups were fantastic and so friendly and work so hard in that heat, I don’t think I could do that for a job watching people lie around in the Sun and swim in the pool whilst I work, I’d be in that pool every 5 minutes! We didn’t see any of the Evening entertainment but what we did see didn’t really make us want to stay for it to be honest, I think this is good towards more of an older generation and was indoors which with the heat I couldn’t stick. So our room was at the very top of the hotel facing the bay as already mentioned, if you are looking for complete peace and quiet DO NOT book a Seaview room, if you are looking for an early night DO NOT book a Seaview room, as next door is Charlie‘s bar, which is open till around 2 am, there is live music every night that plays till around 1.30, this is very loud and you can literally hear every lyric from every song as you lie in bed. If you can’t beat them then join them maybe! It doesn’t start till 10.30-11 anyway so it’s not always noisy. I’m happy that we had a Seaview room as the views are without a doubt beautiful, but make sure you take good earplugs, and an eye mask if you want to lay in! Or get a pool view as this is much quieter according to my daughter and son in law. Es Canar itself is getting quite rundown I’d say, the immediate area to the left and right of the hotel is okay, there are a few shops that sell the usual tat but if you start to wonder further up either of the hills then you will see lots of shops that are boarded up and closed down. I visited back in 2019, and I think that maybe Covid has perhaps hit the area hard which is a shame. I love Ibiza and I’ve been visiting since 2008 and will come back as often as I can but I don’t think I will visit Es Canar again. But this is because I’ve been a few times to this part of the island and would like to see some other parts. Es Canar isn’t a place to come if you are looking for a lively/club/party atmosphere. If you’re looking for a few quiet bars and a stroll along the beach in the evening than this is probably a good place for you. Having said all that you can get taxis very easily to and from the hotel and resort itself to other parts of the Island. I would recommend this hotel to others as it was a lovely stay and I do feel quite miserable now I’m back home, if I could move to Ibiza I would!
Misleading
Arrived to a room which looked more like a two star. Went to reception and asked to be moved. They moved us next door which was a bit better still not 4 star. Asked for a sea view which we got unfortunately it was so noisy you could not sleep as bar next door as loud music. The food was nice except it did not have much variety. Rooms are a lot smaller than in photos we paid for a superior room we certainly did not get it. The hotel supposed to have had a make over I could not see this as carpet in corridors were stained, walls needed painting and door frames needed attention. If you want luxury this is definitely not the hotel
Some great things, some disappointments
Myself and my mum stayed for 4 days on an all inclusive basis. Our room was in the newer block and it was really lovely. We picked a balcony with a pool view which was a great choice. The hotel’s aesthetic is really gorgeous, feels 4 star. The pools are lovely, the gym was great, food is really nice. However, I wouldn’t stay on an all inclusive basis again as it felt too restrictive. There are many extra charges for eating in the a la carte restaurant, pool bar snacks, selected drinks (for example over half the cocktails and flavoured spirits were chargeable). There are no options for late night snacks, the bars close at 11pm. I went for brunch instead of breakfast one day and the food selection was extremely limited. Another frustrating restriction was that the pools only open from 10-6. We also paid for a room upgrade which was worth it, but some of the things outlined in the room upgrade weren’t included, there was no docking station and extra toiletries as promised. Some staff were very friendly and others were more standoffish. I asked to see the bar drinks menu and a kind staff member gave it to me and another staff member came over and snatched it from my hands without explanation. I think they didn’t want me to know what was included and not included in the all inclusive package, but that didn’t happen again fortunately. I am not usually one to complain or even review but I felt it was important to highlight the pros and cons of this hotel.
