Great location :)
This hotel was in an amazing location it was very clean and comfortable the only negative was that the room wasn’t ready when it was check in time, but everything else was great. We was on the 28th floor and got a great view of the empire state, we was a ten minute walk from Times Square, very close to the edge and lots of transport options. Tons of food places close by. It was my first time to New York and it was great. I would definitely recommend this hotel it was clean comfortable and spacious.
Elevator outage creates significant delays
In October 2022, I stayed at this hotel for four nights with a group of ten others for a group excursion. This hotel was sufficient for our lodging, however, regrettably, we could not enjoy our experience to its fullest extent here. The most prevalent problem with this hotel was the state and management of its elevators; only one of the two elevators was in service for all 32 floors, which caused significant delays getting from our lobby to the rooms and vice versa. The issues with this hotel's elevator situation were very clear: one single elevator was not enough to handle constant traffic through 32 floors and the lobby. Our group was on a tight schedule, and we could not afford to wait for elevator service every time. This resulted in us having to use the stairs, and our rooms were all on the 25th floor or higher. As one can guess, this was not pleasant. Due to the elevator outage during our stay, many of us had to use the stairs, as we had scheduled events that we could not afford to be late to. This included even short trips back to the hotel to change our clothes. The staircases are very steep, which presented a challenge. On our last night, our group leader advised us to wake up at 5AM to bring our suitcases down to the lobby in the elevator before the large crowd rush hits. I fear what may have happened if we had to bring our suitcases down the steep staircase. Additionally, during periods of high traffic, an “elevator attendant” was assigned to the elevator to manage capacity, limiting the number of occupants. While this reduces the risk of elevator failure, it adds an additional problem to the pool. Namely, when the attendant determined that the elevator was “full,” they pressed the “independent service” switch, with the intent to make the elevator skip all outside calls until one of the other calls is served. The problem is that when this is done, the elevator computer does not “hold” the outstanding outside calls until the mode is released, it just forgets them entirely. This means that unless the person waiting for the elevator pushes the button again, they will never be served. Despite these issues, the hotel's quality was sufficient to keep us for our four-night stay. Thank you to all the staff we met at the front desk, at the breakfast bar, and at the janitors, who empathized with us and helped us the best they could, even when it was clear that nothing they could do would solve the large problems. We wish you all the best, and we hope that this hotel will put effort into better strategies for more efficient operation.
Not worth the charges.
Normally I would never dream of giving a review, let alone a negative one. The attitude of the staff upon check in was a bit rude, because of early arrival. The breakfast was nothing like shown in pictures which was disappointing and not worth the extra charge. The lift situation was just ridiculous. Waited ages only to have the lift be full and had to wait ages for another lift. I know there were stairs, took them once and got lost trying to get the lobby. Was charged nearly $400 for damage insurance for a room that already had a stool with an iron mark, a chair with random stains and a ripped bed frame. Thankfully you get your money back when you check out. For some reason we were given IHG branded room cards, instead of the Hilton. If you want to visit time square, it's a bit of a trek for non-walkers, but if you have no problem walking and simply require a bed to sleep in, it's an alright place to stay.
