Great location but old and dated

Jan 2022 | Feeinthepink
As all reviews state this hotel is in the best location. I guess it comes down to you get what you pay for. We stayed 5 nights over New Year on the 21st floor and although we’d requested a high floor with a view, we didn’t get one. It was booked months in advance for a bargain price & if we’d paid the prices they were charging at the time, we’d have been very disappointed. It’s definitely a budget hotel. It’s great if you don’t worry about the size or decor of the room. The decor is old and dated (especially in the drab corridors) & the bathroom was tiny and old, but always clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful & Sean the security guard was especially friendly and interesting to talk to.

Christmas in NYC ❤️

Originally booked NYC for April 2020 to visit family but obviously with Covid it’s taken until now to get there & when the opportunity to travel at Christmas came up we jumped at the chance! This wasn’t the hotel we originally booked but it turned out to be better than our first choice. Location is brilliant, slap bang in mid town, opposite Madison Square Garden so easy walking distance to Times Square, Empire State is 5 minutes away and the High Line & Hudsons Yard 10 minutes. We also walked the 25 minutes to Central Park which is a straight route from the hotel……this was our second visit to NYC so did know our way around a little. Penn Station is 2 minutes away and the subway is fairly easy to navigate. Our rooms were a little on the small side and a bit dated but for the amount of time we spent in them it wasn’t a huge issue. The hotel really took the mask wearing & sanitising/cleaning seriously which made the whole stay so much more enjoyable in really uncertain times. Rooms were cleaned really throughly daily as well as communal areas. The Tick Tock diner is brilliant, we’d visited for dinner on our last visit but hadn’t realised it was part of the hotel. We used it for breakfast every morning & a couple of evening meals. The staff are fab & the service excellent, proper American diner food & plenty of it with reasonable prices too. Used by locals as well as tourists so always a good sign. Wasn’t as impressed with the Italian restaurant, service was really slow although I think they were running on bare minimum staff levels. My only criticism would be that a family friendly bar/lounge is needed. We had drinks in the diner a couple of evenings which was fine but somewhere more intimate would be nice (wouldn’t feel happy taking kids down in to the cocktail bar/restaurant downstairs). Finally huge shoutout to Hector the concierge at the front door, he’ll help you with anything & everything. Oriana in Tick Tock also deserves huge praise, she knew our drinks order by the time we left & we had ‘our’ table every night too. All in all every single staff member couldn’t have done enough for us so thank you. Will definitely be back.

Awful visit and would never return

Horrible experience at the New Yorker. We had to charge one of our phones in the bathroom, not to mention the fire hazard plug socket behind the bed!! Room was tiny, our luggage took up most of it! We couldn’t move around much in the bathroom at all. Room was very dated and dirty (marks on the headboard which was very off putting!) - the walls were so thin all we heard was walking about in the hallway all night, alongside our neighbours being noisy…. VERY thin walls!!!! Awful night sleep. We got there about 11pm at night due to a late flight, stayed one night and left a day before we were due to because of the sheer state of our room. Hotel reception were very poor and not very helpful or sympathetic at all. Currently speaking with our agent we booked this through to look at our options of complaining.
