Playa Calida is a family-family hotel in Almunecar, a traditional town on the Costa del Sol, on the south coast of mainland Spain. The hotel is steps from Playa Velilla, a sandy stretch bordered by the Mediterranean Sea. It's also a short drive from the centre of Almunecar, where you can find a seafront promenade home to restaurants that offer Spanish specialities such as tapas and fresh seafood. The hotel offers activities such as aerobics and boules, and has a gym where you can keep up with your fitness regime. There's also a spa, home to a Turkish bath, whirlpool and a sauna, where you can sign up for relaxing treatments such as massages. The hotel provides family-friendly entertainment on a daily basis and offers a kids' club for younger children and teenagers. If you want to unwind, you can lie beside one of three outdoor swimming pools which have relaxation areas decorated with Mediterranean greenery. There's also a separate kids' pool. Playa Calida has three bars, all of which offer soft and alcoholic drinks throughout the day. Some of the bars serve snacks, chips and ice cream too. There are also four restaurants, all of which are open for dinner.

Playacalida Spa is 200m from Playa Vellila and a 3.5km drive from the centre of Almunecar. Here, you can walk along the seafront promenade for views of the coast, sip a cocktail at a bar overlooking the marinam, or ascend to the hilltop perch of San Miguel Castle, a 7th-century fortress. If you're looking for a family-friendly day out, you can drive along the coast to Malaga, where you'll find a water park, a theme park, lively nightlife and sandy beaches. You can also spend the day exploring the historic city of Granada, famous for its ancient fortress.

You can choose to eat dinner at one of the buffet restaurants, or at one of the two a la carte restaurants that serve international cuisine. If you want to eat out, you can choose from a varied selection of dishes including pasta, pizza and Spanish paella in the centre of Almunecar.

To keep the kids happy, two of the restaurants offer a kids' menu. Children can also enjoy activities and make new friends in the kids' clubs.

Rooms at Playacalida Spa have a bright colour scheme with traditional furnishings. All come with a balcony or terrace, satellite TV and air conditioning.

Nice resort with lots of amenities for family holiday. First impression of the hotel and its infinity pool had a positive vibe adding to our holiday and being right with our choice. Hotel staff were very friendly and always helpful on when in need. The rooms were large and comfortable. The swimming pools were well maintained and assisted with life guards during open hours. We had a sea facing room and had some of the best views of Almunecar beach. The kids club was good and had lots of engaging activities for the little ones. For parents who wish to stay long at the evening entertainment,kids are taken care at the club (optional choice) we found this handy. The infinity pools needs a special mention. The views are splendid and assures some best insta photos. Could have given 5 stars if not for the lack of variety in breakfast menu. The food menu needs to be improved and more staffs to ensure better service at the restaurant. Special mention for the Halloween party organized by the resort. Well organized and engaging.

Large family group holiday

Spent half term week at this hotel on all inclusive basis. 14 of us across 4 rooms. Good points - food variety, pools, room sizes, bathroom facilities. Staff friendly if you make a little effort to try Spanish. Not so good points - uncomfortable beds and only 2 doubles so difficult for families, entertainment was very basic although we did have fun, hotel is isolated and beach is down a steep slope but taxi was only 10 euros each way to town and just take time heading back up from beach. Overall we made some fabulous memories for our extended family and would hope to return again one day

Great hotel

We travelled during half term a party of 5 (3 adults a 6 and 10 year old) We had rooms 202 and 203, rooms were spacious and bathrooms large with separate shower cubicle and shower over the bath. Shower gels and moisturisers were in there. Rooms were clean and beds ok, air con worked well. We were all inclusive and there was always plenty of options to eat but like in other reviews the food could be a little warmer. There is always pasta, fresh cooked meat and fish, salads, fruits and plenty of choice for vegetarians aswell. Pots of ice cream are always available at every meal and at the pool bar as part of all inclusive. The only alcohol drinks you can have in the restaurant are wine or beer, anything else will need to be obtained from the bar across from the restaurant. The pools are great but very cold, but that is probably due to time of year. The infinity pool is beautiful with fantastic views and hot tubs are always busy but with room still. The lifeguards are very strict at the pools with no balls allowed, no diving and no swimming underwater, also you cannot wear tshirts on the pool to protect from the sun unless they are proper swim ones. The indoor pool was warmer and was never busy, there is also a hot tub there. The slides and lazy river are fantastic although again cold and there is hot tub here aswell. There are plenty of loungers around all the pools and pool bar was great with all drinks. As part of all inclusive most drinks were included wines , beers, branded spirits, milkshakes, soft drinks, coffees and cocktails from the machine were included such as pinacolada. There are different ice creams for a small charge of around €2 as well as the little pots. They also have crisps and some snacks. We did not use the kids club or entertainment as it was late for our kids starting at 9.30. Mini golf is good and free, and they have table tennis, giant chess and a small aracade. The beach is around a 10 minute walk down a steep slope path we found walking back using the road not as steep. We were there for halloween weekend and the hotel reception was decorated and all staff dressed up which was great for the kids. The dinner on saturday was halloween themed with fantastic decorations and good halloween themed food. We found that most guests were english for the majority of our stay, again maybe time of year. Overall a fantastic hotel if you just want to relax , we would definitely return.
