Nice hotel, but staff were hit and miss.
Just got back from our stay here. Hotel is excellent, with a clean room and the distance from the beach is literally a stone's throw. However, the photos we saw prior to booking are misleading. The view of the beach gives the impression that the balconies all have this view, but that really isn't the case, as the local Town Hall sits right between the hotel and the beach, and the view they advertise was taken at an angle that doesn't take in this building and was taken from the rooftop pool, which is actually a paddling pool at best. The room was very clean and comfortable, but the aircon didn't seem to work from day one, so when we enquired at reception with the blonde member of staff with the glasses, we were informed that it was turned off as it was October. The heat was stifling at night, really unbearable, so we asked the same blonde receptionist with the glasses could she please turn it on as it really was too hot in our room, even with the window fully open. We were met with a rude and arrogant attitude, consisting of shrugs and smirks and a flat refusal to switch it on. A day later she saw us coming in from the beach and informed us that the aircon was now turned on, so we smiled and thanked her. All I can assume from this is that more and more guests must have complained, until she eventually caved in - why couldn't she have just switched it on in the first place? There were other instances of her attitude when asking for things like extra bathroom tissue etc, where she didn't even look up from her computer when she responded to us, so she's either like this with everyone or just didn't like us. One thing I can assure readers of this review, however, is that we were courteous and friendly throughout our stay and at no time were we deserving of the attitude we received from her. She was not alone either, there was a young, slim Spanish man who checked us in who was very friendly when we arrived, but he must have later spoken to the blonde woman regarding the Aircon complaint and then took a dislike to us, as he would barely give us the time of day for the rest of our stay. He also checked us out, but the contrast with our check-in couldn't have been more stark. He didn't even smile, just did what he had to do and didn't even thank us for our stay or wish us a safe journey home. All in all it was a hit and miss stay, but it could have been so much better had those two members of staff realised that they are in the business of helping people enjoy their holiday, as opposed to batting them off as a mere inconvenience. I don't know if we will stay there again, but we're not going to let the attitude of a couple of members of staff put us off from doing so, as the location couldn't have been much better for us and we really don't see how what we were asking of them was in any way unreasonable. Hopefully they will read this review and realise that we really weren't there to inconvenience them, all we wanted was the Aircon as advertised when we booked.
Great Location and Good Hotel
Just got back from a week at the Hotel Metropol ( 19th - 26th Sept 2022 ) Hotel is in a great location -walk out the front door and across the road and you are right on the beach within about 30 seconds !! I didn't have any meals at the hotel and ate out all the time I was there, so can't comment on what the food is like there. The room was cleaned every day and was very well maintained and modern. The room was on the cosy side ( with no balcony ) but was fine for me as I was a solo traveller. The bathroom is big and spacious. The terrace pool is basically a paddling pool really and you can't really swim in it as its only 0.5 m deep and about 10m long by 3m wide. But its a good terrace area for sunbathing. For location next to many local restaurants, bars etc it is a perfect base. I would certainly stay there agin and would recommend.
Not the best, not the worst
The hotel itself is nice and modern, clean with nice staff and really good location (right next to the centre and beach) The toilet/ shower doors are glass with gaps at the bottom and top so really not great for privacy We went half board, the food was okay (average but to be expected). The evening dinner didn’t start until 7.30 which is quite late for us brits so only ate dinner at the hotel twice The pool is on the roof and is very small and not deep at all - not amazing but we were aware of this before coming None of these things put a hindrance on the holiday at all. The biggest issue was the church bell nearby that rings 3-4 times an hour EVERY hour (even in the middle of the night) so we didn’t get much sleep at all - this isn’t the hotel’s fault but it was definitely a very negative aspect unfortunately! Shame as the hotel itself is nice.
