Clean hotel in an excellent location
This was our first visit to Barcelona & we wanted a clean hotel with breakfast in a location where we could walk to most of the attractions. Pros of Hotel Suizo 1. Excellent location very near the old cathedral on the edge of the Barri Gottic, lots of lovely old buildings nearby, about 15 minutes walk to the Ramblas in 1 direction & the same to the seafront in another. The Jaume 1 metro station is literally outside the hotel which was a brilliant & cheap way to get around if you were exhausted from walking all day, tickets are only €2.40 1 way each & it felt safe & fast. We walked the short distance to Liceu station on the Ramblas to get a train to Palau Reial for the Barcelona football stadium & this was great as it's miles away. 2. The hotel was clean, the double glazing was very good to block out most of the traffic noise of the streets below, both our rooms had a Juliet balcony to stand on in the lovely sunny & warm November weather we were lucky to have on our 3 night break. The showers were very effective too, quite powerful for a hotel. Reception & cleaning staff were very good, the rooms were cleaned immaculately every day. You got a small fridge in the wardrobe & a free safe there too, though it had a big old fashioned key that you had to carry round ! 3. They tried hard to give a big variety to the breakfast buffet which is open from 7am till 10.30 am ( it says it opens at 7.30 am on their website but it's actually 7am which was very useful on our last day when we had to set off at 7.45am for our flight home. There was cerals, fruit, salad, cold meats, pastries, breads, tortilla, an attempt at cooked English breakfast items though they were lukewarm, even a bottle of cava to make a Bucks Fizz ! Plenty of choice to set you up for a long day of sightseeing. Cons 1. The main con for us was the size of the rooms, they were much smaller than expected, you could just about walk round the bed, Premier Inn rooms at home are much more spacious ! Plus there was very little storage, just a wardrobe & 2 small bedside tables, no drawers at all just 1 small table with a pouffe under it,no chairs, again there's much more furniture at a Premier Inn ! The bathrooms were very small too with little storage, the room felt cluttered as there wasn't enough storage to put things away. However we weren't in the rooms much as we wanted to be out exploring Barcelona so it wouldn't put us off booking here again, just be aware it's small rooms. We were in 2 rooms on the 4th floor, each with a Juliet balcony, our son's room was on the front overlooking the little square & the metro, ours was overlooking the side street, ours had 2 single beds together, our son's was a double bed but he still had little room to walk round & no chair. 2. The fruit juice in the machines & in the jugs at breakfast were very watered down & tasted awful, luckily there was coffee machines, water & cava so this is only a small niggle ! Overall it was fine for a 3 star breakfast. Conclusion The hotel Suizo was a clean, very well located hotel with an ok breakfast & pleasant, helpful staff & we would recommend it for a short break in Barcelona though don't expect big rooms unless you ask/pay for a corner suite ?
Perfect for short break !
Just landed back from a fabulous first time visit to Barcelona with a 3 night stay at Hotel Suizo - which was perfect for us. It is centrally located for all the major attractions, most in walking distance or handy to have the Metro directly outside or it’s a short walk to the Plaça Catalunya for the official Barcelona Tour Buses where all routes begin which is a really good way to see the city, we bought tour tickets from hotel reception which are the same price everywhere as run by the Spanish Tourist Board - 30€ one day, 40€ two days. Our room was super clean and comfy, a little small but fine for 3 sleeps, balcony opened over the street which is bustling day and night so don’t forget you are in a fabulous city which I don’t think goes to sleep outside anytime! Breakfast was superb and a much higher quality than I would expect for a 3* hotel, choice of fruits, meats, pastries, frittata, good scrambled eggs and usual hot bacon/sausages etc, am sure there was lots more I haven’t mentioned. Staff all very courteous and helpful, on arrival at 11am our room wasn’t ready, but they did check for us instead of just saying no, so we left our luggage with the concierge and enjoyed the day. On departure we requested a taxi to the airport from reception which they gladly arranged for us and arrived with in 10mins for a 7.30am pickup. Overall our stay in Barcelona was excellent and we will return as a lot more to see as we fell in love with the fabulous sights, buildings & culture, great bars, restaurants and general happy vibe of the city - we would definitely recommend Hotel Suizo as a great place for a short city break - we didn’t look for fault and doubt we could have found one anyway!
Just about OK
We booked for 5nights in October. The good points are the location and the breakfast, which were both very good. Plenty of good cafes and bars available locally. We asked for a kettle and this was promptly provided as was a key for the room safe. The biggest negative was the size of the room which was very small with no chairs. The decor is a little drab, although fairly clean. Despite being on the main thoroughfare the room was quiet. The room was chilly, this didn't bother me too much but others might have a problem.
