Poor all round we stayed 4nights, so overpriced, not a 5 star hotel, we paid for prosecco on arrival there was none we had to ask again, our double bed was two twins pushed together with ill fitting mattress topper, we asked for a different room and was declined, weird water sounds in spa, then no water in hotel on our last day, no room service after 10pm despite the menu in the lift stating there was small menu available after 10, room wasn't very clean, very dissappointing- shocking that it is considered a 5 star- unfortunately would not recommend.

A beautiful hotel

This hotel is situated close to the Centraal Station in Amsterdam, it is beautiful inside and the outside looks impressive. My room was large and attractive. Although a card for entry to my room would not work, after a lot of hard work, the man trying to sort it came up with a key for the first night. The key card was fixed efficiently the next morning. The staff were without exception, friendly, pleasant and helpful. I am a vegetarian, there were only a few options for me on the evening menu. It was suggested by the restaurant manager that he asked the chef to make up meals for me each evening. What a lovely idea, the food produced was delicious, the best I have had for a long while. Thank you. Should I visit again I hope the same chef is still there. I can’t really find fault with this hotel, thank you for my good few days visit.

Museum or 5 star hotel ?

Arrived 13th June 2022. First appearance was that it is not a reception of a 5 star hotel. Smiling staff but sombre decor. The room was rated by the hotel as,"superior", Well it was certainly not! The room was small for a double and very outdated. No mirror and dressing table for my lovely wife to make herself up. Only the bathroom has that over the wash hand basin. The shower is accessed by climbing into a high sided deep bath with a three panelled hinged glass screen which we found difficult to get passed to get to the shower. Why they did not either fit a curtain or a fixed screen? I appreciate that the hotel is an historic building, but the furniture is not up to the standard of a 5 star. Most of it looks as if it has been bought from a second hand supplier. Everything is dark, wallpaper is from an historical design as too is the rest of the hotel with monumental dark brown furniture and low lighting, which could be mistaken for gas lamps level in lumens. The staff are wonderful and helpful. At breakfast, many stand around and walk by without taking used crocs away. The tables are very small, so you will have to keep putting them onto the next table. We spent most of the breakfast walking back and forth foraging around for our breakfast. It was self service, but not set out to make it easy for new comers. One coffee machine with three or four waiting behind, the same for toast. There are a lot of staff and very pleasant, I would suggest with the training they could be more helpful, and with more equipment breakfast would be a better experience. Dinner was served in the bar, as it turned out the food was excellent and so too the service by a young and skilled lady that knew how the dish I enjoyed was made. The barman Thiego was a blessing, one of the most intelligent persons I had met and I enjoyed our talks on European politics and history. The following day I requested that they book a canal trip for us, which they did. I also requested a table booking at the popular floating Chinese restaurant for that evening which they did not. We had to sit and wait for a table which was disappointing. We would not book this hotel again. It needs to make up its mind to be a 5 star international hotel or a quaint local historic building that used to be a shipping office. after all, it is not a cheap stay. A five night booking was too long and pleased to leave.
