Beautiful, great location, nice people
I really liked this hotel, it was quite grand, great location and nice staff. Walking distance to all the best sites, good restaurants, and night life. We were there during a rather busy time, so it was perfect to be able to park our car a few blocks away and do all the walking. They have their own parking, but very few spots, so book a spot early as you can. But know there is plenty of paid parking in the vicinity. I loved the decor with all the plush velvet and crystal chandeliers mixed with the historic nature of the hotel. Spotless clean.
A mixed experience
We’ve had a range of experiences staying at a number of hotels in Bruges over the years and this one ranks around the middle. I’ll start with the plus points. Good location a short walk from Burg Square. Great impression on arrival - it’s an old building with plenty of character and nicely decorated and furnished. The Christmas decorations added a lovely festive touch. The room was spacious and well appointed. Breakfast was great with a good range of options. The main issue was with the housekeeping and items not being replenished, including towels, coffee and toiletries. The water didn’t drain from the shower, which needed a good clean around the bottom of the doors, and the water temperature changed unpredictably. The hotel has a small spa but we weren’t told that slippers and robes were provided until we asked (I thought they’d forgotten to provide them in the room). With more attention to detail on the housekeeping front I’d have given another point and rated it as very good.
Underwhelmed
I'm afraid that I was a little disappointed with most aspects of my stay with my daughter. I booked 2 separate suites for us so it wasn't a cheap stay. After emailing the restaurant two weeks before my stay to discuss parking i had no reply. I had to call and was told all the parking spaces had been taken. I also got a email saying that both rooms might have 2 single beds pushed together rather than one large double I replied saying that one of the rooms must have a double for me as I'm a big chap. Again no reply so. So emailing this hotel is total waste of time. The room was basic no mini bar and yes both rooms had single beds pushed together. 1 chair at the table for a room that sleeps 2 so someone would have to sit on the bed. Bed looked very clean but I did find one hair on my pillow but it happens but my daughter did find a pube in her shower so maybe this is a problem that needs looking at. TV very basic for a hotel of 4 stars should be sky as most guest are English or American. Breakfast OK but hot food just warm but plenty of everything. So stay was ok, room ok, bed comfortable but biggest turn off was the shower. When the shower door was opened the smell was disgusting I did report that to the main reception. I would definitely say this is a 3 star and not 4 star and at nearly 900€ for the two of us overpriced.
