What’s the weather like in Side in December?
Even though it’s winter, this pretty resort on a peninsular in southern Turkey still draws lots of visitors. The Side weather in December is mild with good sunshine, but it’s a wet month compared to the rest of the year and you’ll need a light jacket in case you’re caught in a shower.
The Gulf of Antalya and the Mediterranean Sea surround the 800m peninsula where Side is set. These seas are still pleasant in December, at an average of 19°C, and the warm waters help to keep the air mild around the ancient town and the whole Antalya region in winter. The Taurus Mountains, which are behind Side, can also block any colder winds moving south from northern Turkey.
The mild weather in Side in December means you’re still able to get out and explore the villages and ancient remains of the region, including the Temple of Apollo. Remember to take an umbrella though, as the rain increases to 278mm this month with an average of 12 days experiencing some rain. The average daytime high temperature will be around 17°C and most days will have five hours of Mediterranean sunshine from ten hours of daylight. The temperature can drop to 8°C on the coldest days. The sea will be about 19°C this month, which is probably too cold for a swim unless you wear an extra layer. The wind speed is moderate and the UV, heat and humidity levels are all low.
