What’s the weather like in the Dominican Republic in December?
The Dominican Republic’s in the northern Caribbean which means it has tropical weather with high temperatures all year round. It shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti which is quite mountainous. You’ll be warmest and driest in the south and west due to the north easterly winds. The north coast has a rainy season from November to January, while it’s May to November for the rest of the island. You’ll get less rain and lower humidity if you’re going in December compared to the months just before it.
The average high in the capital Santo Domingo, on the south coast, is 30ºC in December. This drops to 20ºC at night so it’s perfect if you like being warm. The sea temperature’s 27ºC, while humidity’s high. There’s 75mm of rain over 15 days, and you can expect seven hours of sunshine from the 11 hours of daylight each day. UV levels will be high so don’t forget your sun cream. The sun goes down just after 6pm.
