What’s the weather like in China in April?
April is springtime in China, with mild temperatures across the country. At this time of year there’s cooler weather in northern regions, including the capital Beijing, and hotter temperatures further south in Guilin and Kunming. In eastern regions including Shanghai, the weather can be quite changeable at this time of year, while Hong Kong is beautifully warm and sometimes humid. Rain is common, but it’s usually drizzle or light showers.
In Hong Kong, average highs in April reach 25°C, with lows of 20°C. Heading north, Chengdu has highs of 22°C and lows of 13°C at this time of year, while Shanghai reaches highs of 19°C. As for wet weather, Shanghai expects around 65mm of rain during the month, while Beijing is drier with just 20mm forecast. Some cities, including Hangzhou and Huangshan, can be damp and drizzly in April, so it’s worth packing an umbrella or light rain jacket if you visit at this time of year.
