What's the weather like in Malaysia in October?

Malaysia is reaching the end of the southeast monsoon in October, while the northeast monsoon’s beginning to gather pace. On the western coast including Penang and Langkawi, October can be very wet, while the capital Kuala Lumpur is also showery at this time of year. On the east coast including Tioman Island and Redang, it starts to get quite windy in October, but while the seas can be choppy there’s still plenty of chance to sunbathe on the beautiful beaches.

In October, the average temperature in Malaysia depends on which part of the country you’re visiting. On the west coast temperatures average around 29°C, while Kuala Lumpur is slightly cooler at 27°C. The east coast resorts including Redang and Kuantan also average 29°C at this time of year. As for rainfall, Langkawi in the west expects 350mm of rain in October, while Kuala Lumpur is slightly drier but still very wet with 280mm. Wherever you go in Malaysia this month, make sure you take a light waterproof jacket.
