“very nice hotel in midst of Kakukicho - just beware of Google map”

We had nice double room with a view of the city. The room is not huge, to be sure, but more than adequate. Lots of nice touches, very comfortable beds. It is a bit confusing getting in. Google map completely lost it. Once you are in the entrance, the lobby is actually on the 8 th floor. It is about 5 minutes to the East Gate of the Shinjuku Station. There are a dizzying number of restaurants, shops, bars. For those jetlagged, there is a 7-eleven right in the buiding to get your latte, Katsu, and everything else.

“Less is less. At Hotel Gracery, it appears to be a corporate philosophy.”

Hotel Gracery Shinjuku – A Masterclass in Spatial Optimism Hotel Gracery is an impressive exercise in persuading guests that less is, in fact, considerably less. The location is excellent, although the rooms appear to have been designed on the assumption that visitors to Tokyo will arrive without luggage, clothing or any intention of moving around. Our original room was tiny, the bathroom even smaller, and the absence of a wardrobe or meaningful storage space an interesting interpretation of modern hospitality. Two suitcases presented something of a logistical crisis. We therefore paid an additional ¥5,500 per night to upgrade to a Comfort Double, which offered the exciting prospect of slightly more floor space. Technically, the room is larger. In practice, most of the additional square metres appear to have been allocated to a marginally wider corridor, while the seating area has actually shrunk. The bed is unchanged, and the bathroom has been replaced by an older, unrenovated version featuring dated wood panelling and a shower positioned over a distinctly unappealing bath. It is an unusual upgrade in which the principal benefit is discovering that the original room was, in certain respects, better. Breakfast continues the theme. Armed with small printed receipts, guests are directed to a charmless dining room offering a reasonable, if modestly proportioned, buffet. The provision of coffee cups for yoghurt and other breakfast items is certainly innovative, although not in any way that improves the experience. Other hotels seem to have mastered the apparently complex business of providing appropriate crockery, but perhaps that would be inconsistent with the hotel's guiding philosophy. Atmosphere is conspicuous by its absence, presumably because nobody has yet worked out how to offer it as a chargeable extra. The hotel is certainly no paragon of efficiency, hospitality or character. Indeed, I have encountered more of all three while tripping over our suitcases, which, in the absence of storage space, now double as much of the bedroom floor. To be fair, the location is excellent, and the rooms are functional, provided your definition of functionality excludes unpacking, sitting comfortably or sharing the accommodation with another person. An excellent choice for travellers intending to spend every waking moment exploring Tokyo, preferably having left their belongings elsewhere.

“Not returning the value and experience is not worth the cost”

I paid extra for what i thought was a Godzilla view hotel. It was not. There are photos of Godzilla outside the room. The room was dated and the price was absolutely not worth it. Staff was great and the Godzilla pancake was good. Easy to find the hotel but you can’t walk out to see the Godzilla and it really was much more expensive than what it was worth. Make sure you 100% know what room you are getting. I spend so much for a below average room. However, if you love Godzilla check out the lobby.

“Short stay pre cruise”

Booked hotel for a short stay in Tokyo pre cruise, hotel looked great so good and ok reviews. The location is in the middle of what I call a red light area. The room a standard double is very small with only a 3/4 bed pinned against a wall with no where to put suitcases etc but is very clean. The food at breakfast is varied and good. Overall just OK

“Ok but needs quiet AC, rug cleaning”

Quiet but dated interior. We had to use earplugs to sleep as AC was loud. Air vent was dark and dirty. Rug was musty, needed a shampoo vacuum cleaning.
