“Good convenient location”

Overall, a good hotel in a convenient location, within walking distance to train stations, shopping malls and affordable eats.

“Inflexible check-in time. Avoid if you are gluten intolerant”

We arrived in this hotel at 9 am after a flight of 13 hours and two hours coping with the bureaucracy at Tokyo Haneda airport, to be told that check-in time was 3 o’clock and we would not be able to check in until then. We had been assured by our travel agent that arrangements would be made either for early check-in or for a day room to be made available. Neither of these was possible. The lobby had very little seating of any kind and what there was had no back, so was uncomfortable for more than a few minutes. We asked at Reception if there was anywhere more comfortable to wait and were told no. In the end we resorted to sitting in a bar where the seats were slightly more comfortable though still not for a long period of time. Eventually we went to check-in at 2:45 to be told that check-in time was at 3 o’clock but on this occasion they would allow us to check in early - two minutes early. When we first arrived, we had breakfast in the buffet restaurant. I have a number of allergies including to gluten. I was pleased to see that ingredients were listed on every item until I discovered that the only items that were gluten-free were plain fruit or vegetables or plain meat or fish. In the evening I asked if a dish could be made for me gluten-free and was told no. The manager offered to have a special dish prepared for me. When it came, it was a garden salad with oil and vinegar dressing. Honestly, if you are gluten intolerant, you would be well advised to stay somewhere else. You will not eat well here. .

“Excellent choice in a quieter neighborhood.”

Very difficult to find a hotel in a large city like Tokyo. The Hotel Metropolitan was the perfect location for us. Literally down the street to subway access ( enter through the Lumine store). Shinjuku and Shibuya are 2 stops away . We took the subway everywhere. Close enough to the action without the noise. Shinjuku, in particular is extremely busy, bright and loud. There is a limousine service from Narita that takes you directly to the hotel ($36 CAD each one way). The Tobu next door has a wonderful grocery store in the basement. Fresh bread and sushi daily. At the end of the day they reduce the price on these items . Never day old product. 7-11 around the corner and a MacDonald’s a few blocks away if you feel the need. The hotel rooms were spacious , clean and updated. We were worried about the room size but were pleasantly surprised. Clean safe neighborhood with plenty of restaurants and shops. The staff were extremely helpful and polite. We had absolutely no issues and wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Metropolitan again.

“Well located”

Well located near to the Ikebukuro station. Friendly and calm atmosphere. Our bedroom was, whilst a little small, equipped with all mod cons, and Vthe bed was super comfy.

“Was given an old unremodeled room”

I was here back in January. I was given an old old tiny room. I thought they were all like that and was surprise how much it was that what I paid for. Didn’t realized that I had an unremodeled room till I saw my friend’s room. So make sure you ask for the new one.
