Holidays in Los Angeles

Nicknamed ‘La La Land’, Los Angeles is a vast and complex city, famed for its red carpets and golden sands – think the Oscars and the iconic, Baywatch-inspiring Malibu Beach. Surrounded by beaches and mountains, it’s the ultimate destination for stargazers: stroll down the Hollywood Walk of Fame or enjoy a tour around Universal Studios HollywoodSM. At Griffith Observatory, you can look beyond L.A.’s 24-hour bustling streets and see stars of the celestial kind.

Hollywood is the diverse beating heart of L.A. and the entertainment industry. Look up at the iconic ‘Hollywood’ sign from Sunset Boulevard, and movie premieres at the grand old movie theatres. Known to locals as ‘WeHo’, West Hollywood is noted for being walkable in a car-centric city. There’s nightlife and ‘daylife’ galore, from the exclusive clubs and bars on Sunset Strip to family-friendly shops, cafes and parks. A little further west is the money-drenched Beverly Hills (which is actually flat), home to the celebrated 90210 zip code. Your average household name megastar can be spotted browsing one of the local boutiques.

Hollywood’s hotels put you in the heart of the action – this is where the grit and the glamour of L.A. sit side by side. The stylish Hollywood & Highland Centre is an elegant shopping mall, dotted with tributes to Hollywood’s beginnings. Practise your acceptance speech as you’re guided around the Kodak Theatre, home to the Academy Awards ceremony.

West Hollywood

The best family resort in central L.A., West Hollywood is a mix of the friendly and the fabulous. Stop off for lunch on Sawtelle Boulevard, then saunter down Melrose Avenue or the Sunset Strip. Feel like a true local ‘Angeleno’ - coolly pretend you didn’t just see the star of your favourite show or movie bustle past, paparazzi in tow.

Beverly Hills

Just six miles square, this tiny Beverly Hills district has a huge presence. Take in the sights of elegant palatial homes and the unmistakeable air of money on a trolley tour, and go window-shopping in the Golden Triangle - three blocks of platinum card-melting designers and jewellers, which also includes the famous Rodeo Drive.
