Holiday resorts in Caribbean

Punta Cana
Punta Cana is one of the most glamorous resorts on the Dominican Republic’s Coconut Coast, if not the whole of the Caribbean. That's because the giddy mix of hot days on the beach and VIP nightlife makes the resort feel a little like paradise, with its bright green scenery set against the gold of the coast. The jungle is ideal for would-be explorers, while the rather more leisurely golf courses complete a very pretty picture. During your Punta Cana holidays, you may even rub shoulders with some of the world's most famous celebrities, too, as many of Hollywood’s A-listers are big fans of this part of the island.
Things to do
Go shopping at the Palma Real Shopping Village in the Bávaro area on your holidays to Punta Cana, where you can see some beautiful arts and crafts items. Visit the Marinarium and learn all about sharks and stingrays, or head to the Aromas Museum if you're interested in finding out about the Dominican Republic's history and culture. In La Romana, just under an hour's drive from Punta Cana, you can explore the Altos de Chavón, a replica of a 16th century Mediterranean village, featuring an amphitheatre and archaeological museum.
Excellent beaches
The inviting resort has some of the best beaches in the whole of the Dominican Republic. Enjoy the pristine shores of Punta Cana’s 35 kilometre stretch of continuous white sand lined with palm trees. The tropical setting is the ideal location for a long day in the warm sunshine. Relax on the powdery white sand of the resort’s main beach, Playa Bavaro. Take a dip in the warm, crystal clear waters and snorkel in the shallow coral reefs. For something a little quieter, take a trip to Macao Beach where the shores are virtually untouched. Lounge along the sand and take in the spectacular views of the impeccable coast and shimmering waters. This is a popular surfing spot where you can take surfing lessons or rent a board if you are more experienced.
History and culture
It was the famous explorer, Christopher Columbus, who discovered the area on his first voyage in 1492. The popular holiday resort can be found along the exquisite shores of the Dominican Republic. It shares the Caribbean island of Hispaniola with neighbouring Haiti. Before the Spanish inhabited the island, it was populated by the Taino Indians for hundreds of years but won its independence from Spain in the early 19th century by Haiti. The growth in tourism into Punta Cana was due to the area’s first airport opening in 1984. The Dominican Republic is now well known not only as a hugely popular holiday paradise, but also for their major league baseball players.
Vibrant nightlife
Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the laid back island life throughout the day and in the evening. Punta Cana is the best place in the Dominican Republic for nightlife. It comes alive at night with an array of bars and huge dance clubs open until the early hours and regular beach parties on the sandy shores. Dance the night away to a mix of Caribbean beats and the latest summer hits and sip on fruity cocktails. If you want a more peaceful evening, enjoy a cold drink in one of the coastal bars and watch as the sun sets on the glistening horizon.

History and culture

Holidaymakers soon began to flock to the serene setting to experience the laid back island life.
Vibrant nightlife
The upbeat resort of Bavaro has both a laid back atmosphere and a choice of entertaining nightlife for you to experience. With endless coastline, white sand beaches, and a lively party scene, this Jamaican destination has something for everyone. Snorkel in the marine park, relax under a palm and explore the markets and reggae bars in the evening. Holidays to Montego Bay are about as Caribbean as you can get!
Things to do
Holidays here are packed with things to do for everyone. One of Jamaica's earliest settlements‚ Montego Bay thrives with beach bars and bustling markets. With miles and miles of beautiful beaches, relaxing on a sun lounger with overhanging palms is a blissful way to start the day.
Montego Bay Marine Park offers world-class snorkeling and diving, so jump in and see the tropical fish and bright coral reefs for yourself. Kayaking, windsurfing, and boat trips are all part and parcel of a trip to this city.

The resort is also home to some of the best golf courses in the Caribbean, such as the par-72 course at Tryall Club, which hosted the Johnnie Walker World Championships.
A tropical paradise
You’ll have a few beaches to choose from when you’re on holiday in Mo’ Bay, and you’ll have a completely different experience on each of them, so make sure you try them all to find your favourite. For a different kind of tropical scenery, head inland to the mountains where you’ll find fascinating places like the Ras Natango Gallery and Garden surrounded by the jungle.
Beautiful plantations
In the not-so-distant past, Jamaica was covered with a patchwork of plantations growing everything from sugar cane to pineapples. While some are still working, such as Belvedere Plantation near Montego Bay, many are now resort hotels or golf clubs, including some of Jamaica’s top courses: Tryall Club, the White Witch at Rose Hall and Cinnamon Hill. Don’t miss your chance to see inside a plantation house while you’re in Montego Bay, as Rose Hall is one of the resort’s most popular attractions.
Reggae rhythms
It probably won’t come as a surprise that music is a vital part of life to most Jamaicans, and that’s just as true in Montego Bay as elsewhere on the island. You’ll hear it at the beach, in the street, and especially on Hip Strip, the best place to mix with the locals for a great night out. Montego Bay is also one of the pick-up points for a must-do trip, the Bob Marley Experience tour. You’ll learn lots about Jamaica’s most famous son on this unmissable excursion to the village of Nine Mile where he was born and buried, and plenty more about what makes Jamaica tick.

Known as the ‘Land of Smiles’ thanks to its welcoming locals, you can’t help but fall in love with Thailand. When you’re not exploring its pristine, tropical coastline or getting lost among the crowds in its charming city centres, you could be tucking into some of the most pad thai, whipped up right in front of your eyes from a street stall.
With 400 Buddhist structures dotted throughout the country, you can’t venture here without visiting a temple or two. Now throw in the fact it sees warm temperatures all year round, and you can't help but fall in love with Asia holidays.

Maldives
With an average, year-round temperature of 29°C, the Maldives has all the right ingredients for a luxury break. As a favourite with honeymooners and celebrities, it’s considered one of the most desirable destinations on the planet. Holidays to the Maldives are for those who want to treat their loved ones to a slice of paradise. Kick back in complete privacy on white sandy beaches that slide gently into the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. The islands that make up this small archipelago are perfect for unwinding under the scorching sun.

Mauritius
Holidays to Mauritius are luxurious, with plenty of opportunities to soak up the sun, snorkel through coral reefs, and enjoy the local cuisine, a fusion of Chinese, French, Indian and Creole influences. Add to that the bustling markets of Port Louis, the volcanic peaks of Trou aux Cerfs, and the virgin rainforests of Black River Gorges, and you’ll feel like you're stepping into another world.
Mauritius is also a gold mine for history buffs. Amidst the mountainous scenery and swaying sugar cane fields, there is a fascinating culture with tremendous diversity to be found on an Indian Ocean holiday. Wander through the pastel-coloured Hindu temples in Ganga Talao and the colonial townhouses in Rue du Vieux Conseil. And when you’re not soaking up the sights of the island, you can indulge in some of the most luxurious spas and golf courses in the world.
Things To Do
Mauritius is foremost a beach destination, but there’s so much more to this island than meets the eye. If you can pull yourself away from its delicate white sands and cobalt blue waters, you’ll discover mountainous trails and hidden waterfalls. So if you want balmy sunshine, pristine beaches and the chance to see some of the rarest fauna and flora on the planet, Mauritius holidays are for you.
Shopping in Port Louis
A holiday to Mauritius would not be complete without a shopping trip to the duty-free capital, Port Louis. Colourful parasols line Le Caudan walkway from above, shading the cobbled streets below. Here, you can pick up diamonds, cashmere and designer clothing for a third of the price back home. A mix of modern architecture and heritage buildings, you’ll find everything from artisanal markets to high street brand names. Debit cards are widely accepted, but if you want to take home some craft stall treasures, be sure to order your travel money before you go.
A Glittering Nightlife
Though the island is small, the nightlife in Mauritius is anything but! You’ve got lively beach clubs, swanky wine bars and glittering casinos. Head to the elegant 55 Lounge Club for late-night DJ sets and sophisticated cocktails. While Banana Beach Club is perfect if you're looking for laid-back island vibes. It has become a hub for locals and tourists, recognised for the Flamboyant tree that towers Grand Bay.
Discover the History & Culture
Mauritius has a relatively recent history, remaining uninhabited until the 16th century. Arab sailors and the Portuguese first discovered the island before colonisation by the Dutch, French and British. It has since gained independence in 1968, with African, European, Indian and Chinese influences shaping the vibrant food, various beliefs and colourful festivals. A focal point of the community today is The Mauritius Turf Club, a famous racetrack built in 1812 to ease relationships between the French and English settlers. Major racing events are still held here regularly, drawing in crowds of 20,000.
Plenty of Family Fun
If you’re looking for things to do in Mauritius with the family, we recommend a trip to Grand Baie. The shoreline is calm, making it the perfect spot for paddling with your little ones. Besides building sandcastles in the sun, you can also hop on a catamaran to watch dolphins swim along the Western Coast. One of our favourite attractions on this side of Mauritius is the glass-bottom boat trips, a big hit with families.
Snorkelling & Watersports
Mauritius holidays are a paradise for snorkelling and watersport enthusiasts. The island is encircled by one of the largest unbroken barrier reefs in the world, creating shallow lagoons on par with the Maldives. Swim out on the bays at Balaclava and Calodyne to spot tiger fish and blue snapper. If you’re more experienced, head out to the deeper ocean for your chance to see dolphins and turtles. Indian Ocean holidays are renowned for watersports, too, from windsurfing and parasailing to waterskiing and paddleboarding.
Natural Marvels
Mauritius is a UNESCO site, home to some of the most endangered plant life on the planet. Plan a trip to Black River Gorges National Park, and you’ll get the chance to see rare and protected species of plants and birds, including the Pink Pigeon and Mauritius Kestrel. Another spectacular site is La Vanille Nature Park Mauritius. You can explore tropical rainforests, meet a 100-year-old giant tortoise and marvel at one of the largest private insect and butterfly collections in the world.
