Take your pick from Protaras’ tempting choice of Blue Flag beaches, including the picture-perfect Fig Tree Bay, famous across Cyprus for its pale blue water and silky, white sand. The beach is fantastic for water sports, and provides plenty of opportunities for sailing trips along the sunny coast. If you’re away with kids, take them to Ayia Napa’s best water park, Water World, just 15 minutes’ bus ride away. You can also visit the exotic fish, penguins and crocodiles in the Ocean Aquarium. Protaras’ surroundings invite exploration, with natural trails popular with walkers and cyclists for their lush surroundings and magnificent views.
The Blue Flag beaches are the biggest attractions in Protaras, with multiple golden beaches hugging the ruggedly beautiful coast. Fig Tree Bay is one of the finest and best-known in Cyprus, in a picturesque green and gold setting with pure, shallow waters. If you’re on holiday with kids, keep them entertained with the wealth of family-friendly attractions in Protaras. Just 15 minutes’ bus ride away is Ayia Napa’s popular Water World, an exciting water park packed with dozens of water slides, swimming pools and wave pools. The little kids can play in the water playground and special kids’ pools. All ages will enjoy the Ocean Aquarium, with dozens of tanks filled with rare marine life and a penguin house. The aquarium is surrounded with lush, tropical gardens that house crocodile swamps and exotic birds.

Protaras’ warm, dry summers are classic of Cyprus’ Mediterranean climate. The temperatures begin to head towards the mid 20s (°C) in May, often reaching 27 °C in July and August, when the hours of sunshine hit 12.
By bus: The region is served by a regular and efficient bus service, which connects Protaras to the likes of Ayia Napa. The buses are very cheap and run approximately every 10 minutes in high season.
By taxi: Taxis are readily available in Protaras and are generally an affordable and easy way of getting around. They are a good option for airport transfers, and can be booked in advance.
On foot: Protaras is a compact resort that is easy to get around on foot. The beach and centre of town are within walking distance of most accommodation.
Summer beach festival: In July, Protaras hosts its Summer Beach Festival on the famous Fig Tree Bay. The festival features a line-up of musicians from all over the island plus a programme of artistic events. The festival takes place over five days and comes complete with lots of Cypriot food and drink.
Ayia Napa festival: 15 minutes’ drive along the coast is the resort of Ayia Napa, which in August hosts its popular Summer Festival. Taking place in the buzzing Seferis Square, the festival invites visitors to experience Cypriot culture with its free exhibitions and performances.
