What's the weather like in Funchal in August?
Located on the south coast of the Portuguese island of Madeira, Funchal has a Mediterranean climate bringing hot, dry summers and mild winters to the city. It’s the height of the summer in August, and temperatures are at their peak during the month. If you want the warmest, sunniest and driest weather for relaxing on the local beaches and trying out new water sports, August is the perfect time to visit Funchal.

The average temperature in Funchal at this time of year’s 23ºC. With highs of 25ºC, temperatures aren’t too hot, but you’ll still need to come prepared with plenty of sun cream at this time. After the sun goes down, temperatures only dip to 20ºC, so it’s nice and warm for evenings out at the city’s bars, restaurants and dance clubs. Funchal sees around 40mm of rain over nine days this month, and although you may see the occasional shower, it’s likely to be light and short-lived. If you want to take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean, the water’s a lovely 23ºC in August.
