    Geographical influences

Gambia’s the smallest country in Africa, found on the west central coast and surrounded by Senegal. The bright blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean wash against its pretty beaches. The tropical rains stop between November and May, meaning December has dry and hot weather blown in by north-easterly winds.

The weather in Gambia in December is always hot, dry and very sunny, with an average daytime high temperature of 30°C around resorts like Bijilo on the west coast. This may occasionally drop to around 27°C on rare cooler days. The typical temperature at night time will be about 19°C by the coast, so check that your hotel has air conditioning. The sunshine’s hugely impressive in December, with an average of ten sunshine hours each day and the sun not setting until about 6.45pm. Rainfall’s very low in The Gambia in December and it’ll be a surprise to have any wet weather during your trip. The temperature of the Atlantic Ocean should average 24°C, which makes taking a refreshing dip very enjoyable.
