A WONDERFUL HOTEL – Should be more than five Stars

May 2022 | Easy-Time-Traveller

This was our first trip to Turkey so also our first time at the Berut Hemera and all being well will definitely not be our last – WE LOVED IT – There are many reviews on this hotel which I fully support as the Herema is somewhat unique in the way they do things however; there were 2-3 things I thing are worth covering so I would like to give a review from our perspective and based on our experience…. Arrival: It was just after five in the afternoon when we arrived at the Hemera it had been quite a long day. On disembarking from the transfer coach we were told very politely to leave our cases as they would be attended to by their staff – A young lady wearing a very smart red suit took us into the reception lounge area and said “now please sit down and relax YOU ARE ON HOLIDAY, what would you like to drink” – This lovely young lady saw to all our paperwork and the booking-in whilst we sat slowly unwinding – A bell boy then took us to our room – WHAT A LOVELY WELCOME. Room: We booked a ‘Twin Deluxe Room’ with a side sea view through Hay’s Travel flying with Jet2 - Our room was on the top floor of what we were told was a new block, it overlooked the ‘Quiet Pool’ and ‘OliveA La Carte Restaurant’ – The décor of the room was bright, warm and very welcoming – The bathroom was spacious with a good sized shower cubical – there was always plenty of hot water – back In the room we had a fridge mini-bar which contained a selection of soft drinks and a few bottles of water (replenished every day), although water was never a problem as chilled water is available in many places throughout the site –- There was a large electric kettle and four good sized mugs – In the adjoining trays was virtually every tea bag imaginable plus coffee sachets, see more later! – Next to the kettle was a coffee pod machine – There was a complimentary beach bag (to take home) containing two beach towels – in the wardrobe was ONE white terry-towel robe which my wife enjoyed wearing in the mornings – It was disappointing there was only one but even if there had been another it would have been a waste as no hotel ever seems to cater for 5XL people! – There were also two pairs of complimentary scuffs to wear in the room although they did not fit me!! - Coming back to tea bags if you like an EARLY MORNING CUPPA, bring your own tea bags as it is a nightmare getting room service to leave your favourite choice of tea – I did find what I thought resembled English tea (see picture) and left several notes every day which were sadly ignored – If you want milk you need to contact reception as the rooms seem more geared up to coffee with sachet cream - The Air-Con in our room was very good, lowest setting being 19 degrees - Three nights in the early hours we had a series of short power cuts and each time the air-conditioning controls had to be manually reset. Food & Restaurants: [Pros] - In the main restaurant there is a huge selection of all different meats, fish, fruits, breads plus very nice prepared dishes - during the week there are theme nights like Turkish & Mexican etc. – If you have a sweet tooth you will love the Hemera – there is a vast assortment of eye watering desserts – basically you are spoilt for choice so indulge yourself – many are made into small bite-size pieces so you can try a little of everything – There are also four A La Carte Restaurants on the site but you need to book in advance. [Cons] [1] - We like to finish our meal with cheese and biscuits – There was quite an assortment of cheeses but NO CRACKERS or BISCUITS to have with the cheese which was a little disappointing – Ice cream is not served in the restaurant every night although for all those ice cream lovers during the day (10am -6pm) you can get about five different flavours in the Hanimeli Patisserie where again there is a huge range of different cakes – as well as milkshakes and coffee. [2] - If you like BACON for breakfast then you will be disappointed, it is not on the menu (or it was not while we were there) - We spoke to two couples who said they go to an outside restaurant where they can get a ‘Full English Breakfast’ which seems strange when you are paying for ‘All Inclusive’ [3] - Several reviews rave about the Burgers at the Burger House near the Main Pool - We ordered two ‘Mac It Easy Burger’ with “French Fries” and a ‘Locally Perfect Salad’ – Although we ate most of them I have to say we were extremely DISAPPOINTED – Maybe we caught them on an off-day!!! - see pictures and see what you think! Staff: ALL THE STAFF are so very friendly - They work so hard and go out of their way to talk to you – most were multi-lingual which put us Brits to shame as we could not get our heads round one word of Turkish (and we tried) it is such a difficult language – If you go to the bar to order a drink they will take your order and then say “please sit down we will bring it to you” - If you are around the pool or in the restaurant they are constantly coming up to you to see if there is anything you want – In the restaurant the waiters are brilliant on arrival to your table they would tuck your chair in as you sit down and as your drink goes down it is topped-up automatically until you tell them to stop! – As the days went on some waiters remembered your name and your drink preferences – In the restaurants we were impressed by the ladies on duty armed with a dustpan and brush gathering up every little crumb or spillage, they kept the place spotless. Tipping: There is no pressure to tip however, in Turkey it is customary - the service and personal attention at the Herema is undoubtedly exceptional so many may feel they would like to – There are Tip Boxes all over the hotel - three waiters in the restaurant who gave us very good service subtlety mentioned “Just to let you know I will not be in tomorrow” or “I am moving to a different section” – There was no actual pressure but it was very obvious what they were wanting. Suggestion: - Courtesy Bus Many hotels we have stayed at have their own courtesy bus going to and from the hotel to the local resort or town on a regular basis - not everyone feels confident or safe enough to use public transport. To sum up we loved this place and had a wonderful week - WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK.

Sheer bliss

Every time I visit the Hemera, I think it can't get any better - how wrong I was! This year they have again added a few more surprises - the Hemera app which is a great way to make guests aware of all the amazing facilities; a loyalty card system; the Japanese restaurant (20 euros per person) which is fabulous but the lighting needs to be improved; a stress free check in system. Apart from these additions, all other aspects are even better than I remember - additional dishes added in the beach bar and talented musicians at lunch time, incredible drift wood sculptures, the grass areas have been re-turfed...I could go on. The food is wonderful in all restaurants and the service faultless. Staff across the hotel are friendly, efficient, polite and attentive. Seyfula in the Japanese restuarant, both waiters in the Italian are fantastic, Elmas in the bars, Serkan and Halil in the buffet restaurant, Sinan in beach bar. Guest Relations ladies are very helpful. These are only a few that stick out. All managers are visible throughout the day, keeping an eye on things and on hand to make sure that things are running smoothly and checking that everything is to the guests satisfaction, as is the owner of the hotel. I had a haircut and pedicure in the hotel, both were very good, and would recommend. Thanks again to Ahmet Sen for allocating me my preferred rooms. We will be back in 6 weeks with other family members, they will be amazed at the range of equipment, available via the app, for their young children. We have been coming to the Hemera for 19 years, sometimes more than once a year - it never disappoints. This year two friends, one from Scotland and one from the States, travelled with me - they are planning to return.
