“Great staff, very peaceful location though the town is some distance from other things to do on the island”
Don’t be put off by the very unusual brown exterior colour of the hotel (all other buildings in the town are white with red tiles)! Once inside it’s ok. The staff from reception to house keeping to the restaurant are excellent and made the stay really welcoming. We had the half board package and would recommend it. The food wasn’t outstanding but it was still tasty and well presented. Breakfast was good especially the freshly squeezed orange juice. The outside pool was invigorating and they insist you wear a bathing cap for both the inside (very very small) and outside pool. The view over the town was lovely and the whole area was so quiet. There isn’t much to do though in the town. Nordeste is on the extreme of the island so it’ll take you over 30 mins to get to any other attraction (or an hour to get to the other end of the island).

“Disappointing experience - not worth 4 ⭐”
Unfortunately, the apartment fell well below the standard we expected from a 4-star hotel. During our stay, we observed several issues, including: Stains on the carpet and furniture; Very old and poorly maintained bathroom facilities, including visible staining and deterioration of fixtures; Significant wear and tear to walls, corners, doors and flooring; Accumulated dirt and poor finishing in various areas of the bathroom; General lack of upkeep and attention to detail throughout the apartment; Damaged and heavily worn furniture and accessories. The attached photos clearly illustrate the issues encountered. While we understand that all hotels experience wear and tear over time, the overall condition of the apartment gave an impression of neglect and did not correspond to the quality advertised or the price paid. What was particularly disappointing was that these issues were not isolated but were present throughout the accommodation, especially in the bathroom. As paying guests in a 4-star hotel, we expected a clean, well-maintained and comfortable environment. In addition, we were unable to obtain a proper hairdryer, ironing board and iron, despite requesting them. Our arrival experience was also far from welcoming. At check-in, we were immediately confronted with a long list of rules and restrictions, including the requirement to wear a swimming cap in the pool, mandatory dinner reservations with limited time slots, fixed wellness schedules, and the need to exchange vouchers to receive a single towel. Rather than feeling welcomed, we felt overwhelmed by procedures and restrictions. Furthermore, we had to walk outside in the rain to reach our apartment from the restaurant, which was particularly inconvenient. The breakfast experience was equally disappointing. The coffee appeared to have been standing for a long period of time and the pastries, including the croissants, did not seem fresh. Taken individually, some of these points might appear minor. However, when combined with the poor condition of the apartment, they resulted in an experience that fell significantly short of what we associate with a 4-star hotel.

“Delighted - we couldn't have chosen a better hotel”
We absolutely loved our stay at the Lince hotel. Initially, we were a bit worried about the location and how it appeared to be far from most of the island's attractions, but São Miguel really is quite small and can be crossed from side to side in around 1 hour on very good roads. So the location was actually great, and Nordeste turned out to be a really lovely village, perfect for evening walks after dinner. The hotel was pretty much ideal, the room was spacious and had very good air-conditioning, the balcony had lovely views of the village, and the pools were excellent. If I wanted to be critical, I could say that the heated pool and spa area overall were a bit small, but still it never seemed to be crowded. Also, the breakfast was a bit repetitive, but still very pleasant, with local foods the best orange juice we've ever had. It's hard to find anything to dislike, and overall our stay was very pleasant and very reasonably priced, and the staff were lovely - they even gave us a breakfast to-go basket and made us coffee at 4am on our last day, as we had an early flight. If we are ever back in São Miguel, we will definitely stay at the Lince again!

“Beautiful hilltop hotel”
Pro: - the view. Sat on a hilltop overlooking the town in ocean. Most rooms have a balcony overlooking this so it’s very peaceful and scenic. Beautiful sunsets. -Staff was very friendly and it has a beautiful lobby - Large indoor pool with sauna - nice indoor restaurant, which is good for dinner since places close early in the town. Not Pros -the room was nice and spacious however, it lacks the amenities of other hotels, such as slippers, robes, etc. no conditioner. More of a standard room then upscale - pool was cold if not in the sun Overall, it was a beautifully scenic hotel, and I would stay here for the views
