What's the weather like in Florida in May?

Close to the Tropic of Cancer, Florida’s in the southeast of the United States. Nicknamed the ‘Sunshine State’, it has warm weather all year round with temperatures soaring in May. You’ll also have rain if you book your holidays to Florida at this time, as it is the start of the summer wet season. But don’t worry, you'll still get lots of sun as it doesn't usually rain for long. The south has a tropical climate while in the north it’s a bit less extreme. Florida’s on a peninsula that splits up the North Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, and the weather is kept relatively stable because there’s so much water around.

    Averages

The average high in Miami is 29ºC in May, which only drops to 23ºC at night. With these temperatures you won’t need to bring much more than shorts and t-shirts with you. A waterproof top’s a good idea though, as there’s 150mm of rain over 11 days. At 27ºC, the sea’s perfect for swimming, while humidity’s high. You can expect 13 hours of daylight with ten hours of sunshine each day. UV levels will be extremely high so make sure you use plenty of sun cream. Sunset’s around 8pm.
