Located on the French Riviera, Nice enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate with cool winters and very hot summers. The northern hills of the city help to protect it from fierce winds and rain. Most of the wind that arrives in the city is channelled by the mountains, pushing them towards the east and into the city.
