Thanks for the memories over the last 15 years
We have been coming to the Calypso over the last 15 years it so with our daughters who always loved the entertainment, Alfresco dining as well as the swimming pools. They are now 25 and 21 so doing there own thing so last year was just us and looking to book again for June the 21st 2023 for 11 nights and see all the familiar faces. I cannot fault the staff for being so helpful and have always enjoyed our time at the Calypso. If the entertainment at night doesn’t suit everyone’s taste then other options with just a short walk from the hotel. The room for us as a couple is ideal and would always opt for Calypso 1 with a low floor and pool view. Food was ok as was the all inclusive drinks but our highlight was the alfresco open restaurant at the top of the stairs with food cooked to perfection from a decent menu. Both the sea food platter and the mixed grill were my favourites during our visits there and did try to finish the plate on both occasions but failed miserably. I’m hoping the Alfresco is open from the 21st of June giving us an option for a few times during our stay to enjoy both the friendly company within the restaurant and the excellent service. When does the Alfresco open again and close in 2023 just in case we have a double visit this year?
Mixed feelings
I have just returned from Calypso after a week during October half term. I went with my partner and 4 year old son. POSITIVES Firstly the hotel has good amenities and the housekeeping staff are great and thorough. Location is around 10 mins walk from beaches. Games room is a great addition as is the small playground Pool bar was great Choice of all inclusive food and drinks is good. I personally enjoyed the food which was always different and had fresh options. Although i found breakfast lacking. In house gift shop was a cute way to find unique gifts and not too expensive Theres a fridge in the room which was super helpful as my son was unwell and needed medication NEGATIVE The beds are not very comfortable and very squeaky. We struggled to sleep. Large pool was closed and the water temperature of the smaller ones took my breath away it was so cold (although it was October so maybe they couldn't help that) I had read a few reviews saying the hotel favoured spanish guests. We didn't notice at first but once alot of British people went home there was a large influx of spanish guests for the weekend. Something small but they were given glass cups where we was only trusted with plastic and the staff were much more attentive to those guests. It didn't really bother me much but was definitely noticable. Some staff are just rude, one male receptionist and the games room supervisor genuinely made us feel like we were not wanted. Although in general the staff were good and obviously work hard so definitely not slating the whole team. Lastly my family (and I noticed quite a few others guests) were covered in bites. I didn't really notice and midges the whole time i was there so was a bit concerned about bedbugs but of course it's not confirmed and just a thought Overall the stay was pleasant enough but i don't think i would return or recommend to others.
Very basic and they need to change the animation team
Honestly it’s just an average hotel so don’t expect much. Pool quite small , in the weekend you don’t really have a sun bed unless u get there early and it’s out of season so I can’t imagine how it is in the summer . Pool bar it’s alright , quite fast serving . Quality of drinks it’s not too bad either . Food it’s hit and miss, breakfast not having any omelette so if I want eggs u can have only boiled eggs or fried . Snack bar got burgers, fries and hot dogs and I find it the best from all meals . The most bothering thing from all this holiday it’s animation team . They are the worst I ever seen and i ve been to good hotels and bad hotels , but here animation team it’s close to 0. They do nothing all day long , except a darts game or shooting ducks for like 45 min which I find it very boring and very long . The worst is in the night tho. Michael Jackson’s night that i expected to be the best was an absolute failure . Have nothing to do with Michael Jackson . Most of the show 4 girls are singing , girls singing Michael Jackson doing their own version of the songs so it doesn’t even sound like his songs !! Then the guy sing some songs he s not even doing any of MJ moves or anything close by. Im not a hater but they are very rude and that’s what made me give this bad review . On thriller song they were pretending to be zombies and go around people and scream and scare the kids . One kid after another . They didn’t even stop at any adults only table to scream . They go on to families with kids, go on their table and scream in kids face . What a disgusting thing to do. There were so many kids crying and they keep going on and on for the rest of the song to scare more kids . Somebody need to stop them doing it . Im usually travelling with my kids , but now it was only me and my partner . If they would do that to one of my kids I don’t know what I would do honestly . Also by the pool it’s no music . It’s such a boring atmosphere . Everyone s in holiday , they want to enjoy not to stay in quiet . When I asked for music they said they are not allowed because of the people living in the building near by. How funny it is , as when they do rehearsals for their ‘show’ music it’s load as it can be . Same song over and over again for about an hour or 2 . Most of them being rock song , which I don’t mind but listening to it for like 20 times it’s quite annoying I would not return and I would not recommend .
