Sentido Galosol

Sentido Galosol, the first active hotel in Madeira, is located on the island’s southern coast. Located between the airport and Funchal, both can be reached within 15 minutes by road. As you’d expect the hotel has an extensive sports centre offering activities including aerobics, squash, volleyball, outdoor yoga, swimming and kayaking. If you’re travelling with someone who isn’t so active they can relax in the sauna or get a massage instead.

If your idea of an active holiday involves diving into open water head to Praia do Garajau, around five minutes by car. Here the waters are calm and clear, ideal conditions for scuba diving. If you want to stay dry, head up to the clifftop where you can see the Cristo Rei (Christ The King) statue. It might look like it’s based on the famous statue in Rio but this one is actually four years older.

For guests who have worked up a big appetite (and those who haven’t) dinner buffets are served in the Ondamar restaurant, including themed buffets on selected nights. Alternatively, visit the a la carte restaurant for views of the ocean and cliffs, as you enjoy eating your selection from the extensive menu.
