Skiathos Palace

Set on a hilltop, Skiathos Palace is a waterfront hotel on the Greek island of Skiathos. You'll find the pine-covered shores of Koukounaries beach immediately to the north and its quieter neighbour, Maratha beach, to the south. The hotel's outdoor swimming pool has views across the bay, which is home to a handful of bars, tavernas and hotels. You'll be able to order a drink or light snack from the poolside bar and lounge, which is open from morning until late. Skiathos Palace has a typically Greek whitewashed exterior, along with wooden windows, doors and balconies. You'll find green lawns and flowers around the hotel, along with an exterior covered in trailing plants. Rooms have white walls, wooden furniture and open onto a balcony or terrace, where you can sit outdoors and enjoy the view. The hotel's main restaurant is filled with light from floor-to-ceiling windows and has a view of the Aegean Sea. There are two restaurants at Skiathos Palace, offering a combination of a la carte and buffet dining throughout the day. You'll also be able to order food and drink at the hotel's beach bar. You can get the boat to Skiathos Town from Koukounaries beach, where you'll find souvenir shops, galleries, tavernas, restaurants and bars.

Skiathos Palace is 250m from Koukounaries beach and Maratha beach, where you can swim in shallow waters. The centre of Koukounaries resort is 1km away. Skiathos Town, with its cobbled streets, ancient fortress and pedestrianised shopping areas, is 13km from the hotel. From here, you'll also be able to take the causeway to Bourtzi, where you'll find an old maritime museum, Venetian fortress and a restaurant. Further afield, you can drive to Kastro, where you can explore the ruins of Skiathos' former capital city, including a castle, churches and a mosque. You could also hike through the island's mountainous pine forests and visit its olive groves.

As well as the buffet and a la carte restaurants, the hotel has a piano bar, beach bar and poolside bar. Buffet-style dining is available at breakfast and dinner, where you can dine al fresco or indoors. The bars serve light snacks, plus water, soft drinks, local beer and wine.

You could play tennis on the hotel's court, swim in the pool or walk through Koukounaries' scented pine forests. An outdoor playground is available for younger guests.

Nice poolarea with pool bar and lounge.

All rooms are brightly decorated and come with air conditioning, a TV with satellite channels and a minibar. Cots are available.

Lovely stay

I don’t usually go for half board holidays in Greece. However on this occasion I did and am very happy with my decision. This hotel is modern clean with excellent rooms if you’re familiar with the usual basic rooms in Greece, these in comparison are much better. Beautiful scenery surrounds the hotel. However what really made this a lovely holiday was the staff. Kind , friendly and professionals from reception to the restaurant, found them to be helpful and kind. The food I thought was good and plentiful, some nights were better than others. The hotel’s shuttle service to the beach and town were excellent. My only observation is that during my stay I never heard any Greek music. The outside bar played a mix of international music but not once any Greek music. All in all a great hotel with very hardworking staff.

Lovely hotel in a fab location with spectacular views over Koukounaries Beach

Despite some negative reviews, we booked a week here as part of my birthday celebrations. We arrived very late and the hotel had kept the restaurant open so that we could have a meal and some drinks before checking in to our room. We booked the Deluxe Twin/Double with sea view and we’re very pleasantly surprised to find ourselves upgraded to an Executive room. The location of the hotel is a fairly steep hillside set in pine forests overlooking Koukounaries beach. It’s not ideal for those who have mobility issues as there are no lifts in the hotel and it’s a big place with long corridors and steps to various spaces such as the pool and restaurant. We booked half board with breakfast and dinner included and despite some or reviews about the food and service, we found it to be varied and interesting with a wide choice of options at both breakfast and dinner. The staff were all very friendly and helpful so don’t take too many of the poor reviews seriously. We would recommend and stay again! Top tips Book an Exec room is you like a sunbed on your balcony and amazing sea view. Request a high floor to make the most of that view. It’s worth the steps and long corridors!

Much needed respite

This was my second stay at Skiathos Palace arriving 6th May for 7 nights, with the first five years prior, and I'm happy to say service received on my latest visit matched that of my first - excellent. Staff in all public areas were wearing facemasks, and I felt took the appropriate measures to make one's stay as comfortable as possible. Upon checking in Vasso - Guest Relations Manager approached for a chat, and immediately advised that the restaurant was open still if I fancied dinner - arrived around 10 pm. Vasso was always on hand for any issues that needed sorting, provided complimentary wine and fruit to my room as I was a return guest, and popped a thank you card in my room on my final morning to thank me for returning. Excellent service from a lady who is a credit to the hotel. All staff worked extremely hard, had time for a chat, even during busy times, and although masks were worn, one could sense genuine happiness at serving their guests. The food on offer was standard fayre, with the usual suspects for breakfast, locally produced cheeses and meats, with omelettes made fresh, breads, juices and regular hot choices. Dinner was always a meat and fish selection with good options for all tastes, but with the ubiquitous chips sat there. The hotel is up high, and cannot understand other reviews that bash this, a bit of homework would find that information out, but there is a free bus to the beach and town if you don't fancy walking up/down the 97 steps. I stayed in Room 106, which had great views of Koukanaries Beach, was spacious with a huge double bed. Bathroom was good standard, with wrapped toiletries replenished daily. Working in the hotel industry, I fully understand the challenges faced with the pandemic, and measures put in place that have to be abided by, and felt that Skiathos Palace dealt with it all very well. I no doubt will return later down the line, as the hotel has become a favourite for me. Best of luck for the rest of the season.
